How to clean a hard mouth guard

For the last few years, dentists have been recommending the use of hard mouth guards to more and more people to treat a variety of difference issues. Mouth guards can be used to ward off TMJ, to curb tooth filing from grinding and even as a replacement for retainers. Hard mouth guards are said to be better than soft ones as they are more ergonomic for your jaw, are longer lasting because they can't be ground down and are less likely to harbor nasty bacteria. Despite the many benefits of soft hard mouth guards, they can be a real doozy to clean.

I know that I personally hated using a soft mouth guard for many years. This is not because it was uncomfortable. It was because I couldn't stand the nightly cleaning regiment and always felt that despite my best efforts, it was left with a foul taste and smell and so I always worried it was loaded with nasty bacteria. Plus, I would grind my teeth so much that I would have to go to the dentist to have a new one fitted at least twice a year.

My favorite part about my new hard mouth guard is that the cleaning process is effortless. All I need to do is buy dissolving denture cleaners. About five minutes before I go to bed, I drop a tablet of Polident or Eferdent into a glass of water containing my mouth guard. If you sit and watch, you can literally see all the grime being pulled off. After the tablet has completely dissolved, I let the mouth guard rest for a minute in the blue solution and then quickly wash it off under running water. Now I can go to bed feeling that my mouth guard is clean, my breath is fresh and my teeth and jaw are protected from nocturnal grinding.

How do mouthguards help prevent injuries when playing sports? do you really need to use one?

Wearing a mouthguard will limit the injuries to your mouth area if an accident happens when playing sports. They can prevent broken teeth and nerve damage and are definitely a very important thing to wear.

What is a boil and bite mouth protector?

A boil and bite mouth protector is a mouthguard that is bought from a sporting store. It is better than a stock mouth protector as it is more personalized. It is made from thermoplastic and then put in hot water to soften and put in the mouth to get the shape of the teeth.

What basic water polo gear will I need to play?

Two goals, different colored caps will help differentiate between the 2 teams, swim attire, and a waterproof ball. I would recommend mouthguards, but they aren't necessary.

I bought a mouthguard but it is very uncomfortable, any suggestions?

dip it into boiling water for about 30 seconds and then put it in your mouth, the rubber will form to the shape of your mouth. after that, you can trim the sides with scissors and the guard will still protect you

Central pneumatic air framing nailer # 40463 I need the cylinder seal but can't fina a place to order from.

The phone number for parts is listed below, however it has been my experience that Harbor Freight does not stock many parts. If you can't find parts at HF, find a local professional fastener store that deals in air nailers and ask them to match-up a seal (get close). These seals are common to nailers and most framers have a similar size cylinder. If you like to tinker ~ I have found seals that are a bit larger but you can fill the gap with RTV. If a bit small, heat gun will make it stretch a bit. I am a heavy duty tinker-er with a small lathe. I have made these seals by taking a roller blade wheel (from thrift store, used set of roller blades cost about $5 nets 10 wheels) and turn out a high quality seal. The first seal that I constructed was made using a piece of dental Mouthguard material. Mouthguard material comes in different thickness. I used 1/8" thick material. I cut out a circular piece of material that extended past the diameter of the cylinder about 1/2" (if cylinder is 2 inch dia. then disc is about 3 inch dia.) Mouthguard material (or similar) can be shaped by using a heat gun. Remove cylinder and place in vice or stable place. Place disc of material centered on top of cyl and apply hot air until it softens and shape material down to form seal (use headvalve to shape top of seal by pressing valve on top of seal while still hot, spray silicone on any tools to prevent them from sticking to the hot material). Allow material to cool then cut out center with hot exacto knife. Your new seal can be removed then re-installed on the cylinder using RTV sealant. Good luck
