My screen blackout out, or burned out, or just won't go on. It was just sitting on the desk when I left. When I came back a few hours later, it was black.

Check both power and video cables. See behind monitor and behind pc for anything loose. If the power light is on then is there picture? What type of monitor? If flat LCD type shine a light on it check for faint images if any that will determine if the backlight is dead.

Backlight CCFL is burned and needs replacing. OR,...and Toshiba will not admit to it, but the LCD inverter has gone bad. The part is $200.00 bucks! Plus labor to install it. If you bought the three year warranty they push on you and try to have it repaired, they get out of it saying that you dropped it and thats what damaged it. I bought two A205 at the same time from the same store and they both have the same defective parts. Good Luck with this one. They wont admit that its a factory defect!

I found that some of these niggly problems can be avery trying experience.Simple solution;try a system restore. You only need to go back in time a few hours or a few days.Your system restore will give that choice, or you can go into system, click advance on top left column:then click on system protection, finally click on create(bottom of box) , and type in day and date you wish to restore to.This info won`t be saved, so you need to do this within 24 hours.

Toshiba Satellite L455-S5000 monitor blackout but works w an external monitor

This is a tricky situation, any fluid that ends up inside can cause a cascade effect, hours, days, weeks and even months before the full efects are known. You could end up changing the screen and down the road face major failure in the motherboard. Under the circumstances I would consider a laptop replacement.

My asus x59gl screen won't switch on, I can hear

Try holding in the function key (very bottom left key labeled Fn) and pressing F7. If that doesn't turn the screen back on, hold it again and slowly press F8 a few times. That should turn the screen back on if it was accidentally set to a different monitor, which seems to happen randomly on laptops.
If you can see a very faint image when its held at just the right angle, then you probably burned out the back-light.
Keep in mind, if you bought it in the last year, it is still under manufacturer warranty.

My MD2614u I believe overheated. It had been in use all day while sitting on a wooden desk. The computer was shut down by putting it in sleep mode. A short time later we tried to reboot and all of the...

I suggest you wait at least 1 hr before trying to restart it. Leave the laptop off during this time. This will give enough time to the CPU and other components to cool down.
