My steampress 660 is has black stuff coming out

Hi Beverly. The "dried stuff" is scale which occurs naturally in tap water. You should always use DISTILLED water - buy litre bottles (approx.$2.ea Home Brand) all supermarkets. Electricity off, empty out all the water in your iron. Half fill with distilled water, cover the filling hole, and shake water inside iron side to side, up and down, vigorously, empty distilled water out and watch carefully to see if water runs clear or has sediment coming out - may need to repeat this action. When water runs clear re-fill iron as normal with distilled water. Put iron on lowest STEAM setting, LIFT up iron but with soleplate facing down onto an old rag/towel (brown water may come out) press steam button on & off to try & clear the holes. Turn iron off, allow to cool. Thick cloth wipe soleplate over getting into the holes if they have not cleared. Triple wrap a wooden skewer in cloth soaked in white viegar or "scale remover" and circulate it around the blocked holes. Go very carefully do not scratch the coating on the soleplate or holes - very important. Let us all know how this goes please and if I have been of help, do hope so. Good luck, Chris

All of a sudden the amounts of water coming through when brewing have shrunk to about half the amount per cup. We only use bottled water.

Bottled water is rather ambiguous. "Natural spring water" is often rather high in minerals, and often, so is "purified drinking water". I use a CPAP (breathing) machine and I've gotten to learn about water...the hard way. I got some "Great Value" distilled water from Walmart. Of course this may vary by where you live, but the "distilled" water says that the source is the Plymouth, MI municipal water supply (I.e. city water), and it is treated by "micro filtration and reverse osmosis". Ok, the water is exceptionally clean, but it is NOT distilled! The ONLY way you can make distilled water - or distilled spirits or distilled anything - is to boil it until it vaporizes (in the case of water it becomes steam) then to cool, or condense it back into a liquid. In the case of water this is called "steam distilled".

Unless you have used only steam distilled water you may have mineral deposits. I haven't tried it personally, but I understand that a mixture of white vinegar and water will do wonders to clean out nineral deposits, and it may be worth a try. Otherwise you may need to disassemble and clean it.

What is a water distiller?

A water distiller is a device that removes most impurities from water, through distillation. Distillation means boiling the water and then collecting the condensed steam into a clean container.

Must I use distilled water?

Yes, it is ALWAYS best to use distilled water in any iron, no matter what a specific manufacturer may, or may not, say. The reason is simple: There's nothing in distilled water to contaminate your iron, and as a result, you will not have stained clothes.

If your iron is already dirty from using tap water... clean with mixture of vinegar and water by pouring mixture into iron, bring to full temp for a few mins, flush through steam vents, and rinse with distilled water. You may need to invert your iron to purge the water from tank as well. Repeat as many times as needed until perfectly clean.

Once clean, NEVER use any other type of water in you iron. Period. Always use distilled water. Hope this helps...

Water distiller keeps shutting off

If the iron doesn't heat, make sure power is on to the outlet, check the electrical cord, and check the thermostat.and replace if necessary.
If the iron heats but steams improperly, inspect the soleplate and clean the vents (see below) and flush sediment out of the steam chamber .
If the iron produces too much or too little heat, test the electrical cord . Also test and, if needed, adjust calibration of the thermostat
If the iron does not spray properly, inspect and clean the nozzle .
If the iron leaks or spits, clean the steam vents, nozzle, and tank.
If the iron sticks to fabric, clean or repair the soleplate. If the iron stains fabric, clean the soleplate, clean the tank with a commercial cleaner, and use distilled or filtered water.
Test the heating elements and power for blowing fuse.use the DVOM
God bless you. see the diagram 2_6_2013_8_23_01_pm.jpg2_6_2013_8_23_30_pm.jpg

Does the distillation process purify contaminated water?

If you do the distillation process exactly right it is almost 100 percent safe to drink the distillated water. Although it is very difficult to do it right and the distillation process is very slow and consumes a lot of energy therefore very expensive.

Very small amount of tea on keypad

so I guess I don't completely understand the problem? Did it sink under the keyboard? Here's something that might be able to help if this ever happens again. Turn the computer off as soon as you can, but taking the time to close the app and going through proper power down. if you think the liquid may stain, you can wash it off with DISTILLED WATER. This is NOT tap water. You can buy distilled water at almost any grocery store, it contains no contaminate which is what conducts electricity in water. Distilled water will not conduct electricity, you can submerge a powered on electronic device in distilled water and it shouldn't short, but I wouldn't suggest trying this because your electronic device may have contaminate on it's surface that may make the water conduct when it becomes a solution! Finally let the component dry completely. This could take a while if you don't feel comfortable disassembling it enough to dry it off yourself. Use only air to dry it, compressed (canned or a compressor), or letting god do your work (normal evaportation, you can also use a fan to assist). If the device has had time to completely dry it shouldn't have any problems when powered on again. Hope this helps :)

Then run a normal cycle with detergent.Remove smoky odors from clothes by filling the bathtub with very hot water and 1 cup white distilled vinegar. Hang the garments above the steaming water and shut the door so the steam can penetrate the fibers.Keep the steam iron clean and in good working order by getting rid of mineral deposits in steam vents and spray nozzles. Fill the water chamber with a solution of equal parts white distilled vinegar and distilled water. Set it in an upright position and let it steam for about 5 minutes. When the iron is cool, rinse the tank with water, refill and shake water through the vents onto an old cloth. Test before using.Remove scorch marks from an iron by rubbing it with a warmed-up solution of equal parts white distilled vinegar and salt. Coffee brewing slow and makes a sound like it is loosing suction

If you haven't done so already, try running a cup or two of household (white) vinegar through it. Just pour room temperature vinegar into the fill reservoir. Follow with two full amounts of distilled water (not tap water) to clear the vinegar out. Then try to use ONLY distilled water or at least water that's been through a mineral filter. Calcium buildup from running tapwater through the small heating tube is what clogs up most coffee makers.

BTW, not all "purified" water sold in stores is distilled. It must be STEAM distilled to be true "distilled" water. Wal-Mart carries it. Other stores do, as well, but make sure the bottle actually says something like "steam distilled" on the label, otherwise it's probably only run through a filter. "Purified" water may also be treated by reverse osmosis, which removes some mineral content, but this is NOT steam distillation, the process which removes (almost) all of any mineral contaminant.
