Question about Audio Players & Recorders
The tray will not open when there is no disc in it. However, it will eject if the sliding locking-rod type thing is gently pushed forward from behind by my finger (on the right hand side of runner of the tray, towards the back). Not sure if this is the motor having lost power over time, or wear on the mechanical parts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Yeah it sounds like time to let that bad boy go - they are pretty cheap now and you can get one for about $30.00 and they are easy to install.

SOURCE: CD tray got knocked off track
You can try to fix mechanics by takin apart cd, remove tray and try open/close operation WITHOUT tray. Leave it as OPEN, then try to place tray back in fully open position, but be careful, you have to pres OPEN and then unplug it from outlet to avoid electric shock risk. BE CAREFUL!!!
