Question about Philips 43PP9202 43" Rear Projection Television

43 philips problem with green

I have read through many posts and keep getting different answers about my problem. The blue and red converge and look fine, but when I try to do the green the center cross is fine but the multipoints do not line up. The image gets curved as you look further away from the center. There is also a line that bows at the top. I took the lens off and I could see the line from where the light was shining from the bulb. I just want to know what repair kit I should buy, if any.

Thank you very much, Nick

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This43 philips problem with green - 2c07611.pngn problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

It sounds as if you have a convergence amp bad. Inter service mode for convergence. If the green will adjust then convergence just needs to be reset. If it will not adjust then you have a bad convergence amp.

Thee green on my Hitachi 43fdx20b has gone wacky, ive seen an answer to if the red and blue go wierd but not the green. What can I do to save my t.v.?

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Sounds like the convergence needs adjustment. You can do this through the menu-follow the on screen instructions. The idea is to line up the red, green, & blue.

Red Convergence issue. Can't adjust. 3d picture.

If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. Please note that there are potentally dangerous hogh voltages present inside hte set even when unplugged.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Which IC is for red convergence?

you need to replace both because they are both linked together with the green as each IC controls one color fully and half the green, so when one IC fails that places a strain on the other IC through the green, so that one will soon follow. You need two STK392-120 ICs and you will also need four 6.8 ohm 1 watt resistors. You can get replacement ICs and resistors at the following link with free installation instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself. Heres the link.

My phillips model 60pp920217f has a horrible picture...no green to the color

The green CRT coolant has congealed thats whats giving you the green halos. Change the coolant in the green and blue and your set will be fine. red is never affected so the red coolant should be fine.

May not be the chips. Try this: go to remote and press 062597 then status to get into the service mode. The menu after that is easy to follow. Hope this helps

Converging green?

jaymz, you can`t move the green, the green tube is always mounted in the middle and is not adjustable from the convergence menu. red & blue should be converged one at a time on top of the green, once you have accomplished this the crosshatch grid will be white and that means your done :)
