Perhaps you could find another remote that is compatible with the Sony. It says you only need to turn it OFF with the remote once you do the cold reset.
If your PVR has an Optical Output then you will be able to hook that to your SONY DAV-S300. If it does not you will just be able to use the standard analog stereo connections. I included a picture of the Optical port on your SONY DAV-S300.
Connect RCA Red-White audio cable to INPUT of DAV-HDX500 and hook it to TV AUDIO OUT pins at back of TV. Now select INPUT in DAV-HDX500 to get TV sound in Sony system speakers.
there is a wire that pluggs into the headphones spot on our iPod, it then splits into a red/white cable. i dont know where to get this, but mine came with a DVD player
Try connecting it to the left or right output from the amp to make sure the speaker actually works. It might be the receiver that's the problem. Also, you must be in one of the surround sound modes on the receiver and not the "phantom" mode as it does not give output to the center channel.
The simplest solution would be connect the headphone jack on the iPod to the stereo audio inputs (RCA) to your home theater. So you need a cable that is "stereo phono mini jack" on one end (into iPod headphone jack), and then Y-splits into two RCA connectors on the other end (into L and R audio in on the receiver).
The expensive Apple-endorsed Monster-branded version can be found at http://store.apple.com/us/product/TN983LL/A#overview for $30, but you can get the same thing at Radio Shack for $7. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102974&cp=&sr=1&origkw=phono+jack+rca&kw=phono+jack+rca&parentPage=search
Set the iPod volume to less than ~80% and then control the volume using your receiver. You have to use the iPod menu to select music.
