Re: still not working AFTER i pressed fn key nd f4
You likely have the pc in dual screen mode, meaning that your seeing a second screen you can access by going off the right side of your screen. Usualy you can press fn and f4 a second time to get it into cloned mode.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

There is a row of Function keys at the top of the keyboard on every Toshiba notebook. These give you quick access to some useful functions. To activate them, just press the FN button on the keyboard together with the function key to activate the following commands.
If your TV has an VGA input. Connect a VGA lead from your laptop to the TV. Press and hold on the laptop, the Fn key whilst pressing F4 to allow an external display to work. Set the TV to VGA in and there you are.
Hold the "fn" key and press the corresponding function key at the top to change the display. There should be a picture on the key that implies this function. For example, my compaq laptop uses the F4 key for this so i would press and hold "fn" then press and release F4.
when you power up the press F8 key then enter in enable vga mode then go to control panel ->display ->settings ->change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and ok then restart . Thanks for using fixya. Please rate solution if it helps.
After you plug it into the projector, you need to tell the computer to send the output to the VGA. This is done by pressing a combination of the Fn key and an Fx key, usually the F4 key; it will have a picture of a screen on it in blue. Press it once will direct all output to the VGA port, press it twice will show the picture on the laptop and the VGA port, and pressing it again shows on the laptop only.
You need to press hold the FN key and press the F4 function key once which toggles the display to the External Display source like the television connected along with the LCD of the Notebook.
If the FN and F4 key combination is pressed again, the display will dissappear from the LCD of the Notebook and remain only on the external source.
If the FN and F4 key combination is pressed third time, the display will be back on the LCD of the Notebook and will not remain on the External display source.
Here are these details in other way :
First time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display on LCD and External display
Second time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display not on LCD but on the External Display
Third time pressing FN + F4 ---> Display back on the LCD and not available on External Display (Normal position).
Below are the details of what the Function keys in your DV1000 Notebook work :
fn + f1 Opens Help and Support Center
fn + f2 Opens print options window
fn + f3 Opens default Internet browser
fn + f4 Switches the image among displays
fn + f5 Initiates Standby
fn + f6 Initiates QuickLock
fn + f7 Decreases screen brightness
fn + f8 Increases screen brightness
fn + f9 Plays, pauses, or resumes an audio CD or DVD
fn + f10 Stops an audio CD or DVD
fn + f11 Plays the previous track or chapter on an audio CD or DVD
fn + f12 Plays the next track or chapter on an audio CD or DVD
fn + esc Displays system information.* (*To clear the system information display, press esc.)
Hope this helps...
Try unplugging the battery and starting up with power only. Any Luck? If that works the battery can be put back in and try charging again. Another thing to try is to hold down the fn key and press f4 key once. If that doesn't work try again fn and f4. If all else fails try unplug and take out battery. Then take out the memory and put it back in and try to turn the laptop back on.
