LiftMaster 1/3 HP- Door Opens but won't close

There is power to my garage door and opens freely with no problems. The problem has started recently that the light flashes and the door won't close. At first I thought it was due to the freezing weather. Then I noticed one of the sensor lights was not on. I replaced the sensor with a brand new one...still no light. Then I thought it might be the wire connecting the sensor to the main board so I replaced it with brand new wire. Still no luck. When I press the green button on the panel, the light turns on. (when I don't press it, it flashes every now and then). Any idea what the problem could be? Do I need to replace the back panel/logic board or the whole system?

SOURCE: LiftMaster 1/3 HP- Garage Door Opens but will not close

I have had a similar problem related to my doors when they get cold-soaked. The tracks actually warp a little throwing the sensors off and causing the door to bind. The door will go down a bit then come back up. I overcame this be resetting the force that the motor puts out to lower the door and it works fine now. If you can wait for things to warm up, use the manual release lever and lower the door by hand and then reset the lever so the door can't be opened manually.

SOURCE: garage door opens a few inches and stops

On the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find the 'up force'. Increase this 1/4 turn and try.

Garage door will close, stays shut for a few seconds and then opens on its own.

The opener is closing too far. On the side of the opener, you should see 2 white knobs, recessed into the side. Using a flat blade screw driver, adjust the close knob (closest to the door side of the opener), anti-clockwise until the door will close gently on the floor.

If when closing the door it reverses to the open position and the main light flashes 10 times it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is on and not flickering ever so slightly. (check closely) Tweak them a little even though they may seem to be okay. Check for 5vdc between terminals 2 and 3 on the rear of the motor unit. If there is no voltage or if it is greater than 6vdc the logic board is bad.

My chamberlain garage door will not close. I have checked it manually and it works fine. I have check the sensors and they are inline Please help

If when the door starts to close the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is lit and not flashing. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors.

What is the problem when I pressed a button on the remote to close the door but the door did not close and the light at the openner was flashing?

Anytime the main light flashes 10 times and the door starts to close and then reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are still pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them if necessary. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors.

You most likely have a stripped drive gear. Remove the cover from the motor unit and it will be obvious if this is the case. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor.

switch out the motor units or use a simple hand held "spring scale" to see if the resistance on the two doors is similar. My bet is that something it binding.
is the unit that is not working used more or less often than the one that is working?

The shaft on these garage door motors are not direct drive systems. You'll have to open up the box to see what the actual problem is. I have had stuff like this happen where a gear just slipped out of place.

Here is a link for a parts supplier. I don't know your model but it looks like most of the Liftmaster worm screw gears and drive gears are plastic so it's possible that one of them has cracked.

My Liftmaster 1/2 H.P. opens but cannot be closed (without depressing the button on the wall until the garage door comes down all the way. Any help will be much appreciated

HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON OVERRIDES THE SAFETY EYES.
WHEN HOLDING IT DOWN MAKES THE DOOR CLOSE PROPERLY THE PROBLEM IS IN THE SAFETY EYES.

ARE BOTH LEDS ON? - CHECK FOR A LOOSE OR BROKEN WIRE.
ARE THE EYES WIRED CORRECTLY?
ARE THEY AIMED AT EACH OTHER?
