I have wire less head phones and ever since this mute sign on the upper right hand corner won't go off my head phones don't work

We had the same issue. Contacted Time Warner, and were instructed to reset the digital receiver by unplugging the power supply from the back of the receiver for at least 30 seconds. This will force the receiver to reset.
Fixed it for us. Big sigh of relief!

SOURCE: no sound
On your remote you should have a mute button. Or some will cancel mute when you press volume up or down. Make sure you are using the TV remote and not the cable or dish remote.

Unfortunately this is a feature built into the software of the set and there is no way to get rid of it. Thanks for using fixya though.

1. Go into the settings menu
2. Then select sound profile
3. Then select Normal
4. Then look at the upper right hand corner - select phone
5. The keypad tone is the first on the list - select mute
