SOURCE: rhino 530 no signal

I have a 530 which was intermittently receiving sat signals for about a day then it quit. I disassembled it and found that the circuit trace that connects to the GPS antenna had cracked at the edge of the solder connection. I added a short jumper on the trace and that fixed the problem. Note: very fine soldering. Not for the novis.

Updating your GPS's software will sometimes correct that problem. Go to garmin's site to find the official updates. A side note though, opening your Rino like ebretag did will void your warranty as well as break your seal on the unit, ruining your IPX7 weather proofness.

How do i brighten the screen on my dell pc

How about some clarification. How old is the computer, what operating system, did you adjust the contrast, are you operating on battery or ac?
Until you state these facts it is very hard to come up with an answer.

My display is dull. How do I brighten it up?

If you have graphics control application on the computer from the video hardware manufacturer you can usually turn up the brightness using that. If that is not present or possible then the backlight inverter board needs to be replaced.

The backlight on garmin legend is dim - how do i brighten it

When the unit is on, press the bottom right side button on the GPS unit. A slider will appear to increase brightness, use your toggle to move the slider up.

Hope this solves your problem. If so, please come back and tell us, and rate our solution. Thank you.

Power Switch will not turn my Rhino 530 HCx on

When I try to turn it on it comes up with the “rino” initialization screen and buzzes/vibrates at 5 second intervals. It never goes past this screen. Occasionally, for about 1 second a small white bar will appear across the bottom saying “0%. I’ve recharged the Li battery and got the same result. I’ve tried it while connected to the charger. Same result. I’ve tried using the optional 4 AA battery pack with fresh alkaline batteries. Same result. Did the factory reboot (page/enter/power buttons). Same – except instead of a buzz/vibrate I get the tone every 5 seconds. Have to remove battery to turn off.

Contacted Garmin tech support today (10/22) - hope to hear from them soon.

Suddenly, my screen is dull and dim

There will be a brightness switch it will be a combination of the fn key and a key with a sun symbol and an up arrow on it (usually the up cursor key) if that doesn't work i'm afraid that your backlight or inverter has died, you can get replacement parts on ebay but if you havent done this sort of repair before it may be better to take it into a shop to do, unless you are still under warantee then the manufacturor has to repair/replace, its a good idea to get everything backed up off your Hard drive first.

double check that its the backlight by pluggin the laptop into an external monitor first as if it is a backlight issue it will display fine externally

hope that helps

Garmin 530 gps radio

I am guessing that the unit is out of warranty. if this is the case go to http://www8.garmin.com/support/outofwarranty.html to handle your repairs. while I have not personally sent anything to Garmin, I don't expect you to have any problems. Garmin is a highly recognized company for both thier products and for there service.

Transfer data

Hello tompkin,

Programming the Garmin Rhino 120 using a PC requires an interface kit and may also require a RS-232 to USB converter cable or a 9-pin to 25-pin serial adapter depending on what interface is available on your computer.

The interface kit and cables are available on the manufacturer’s homepage for the product: www.garmin.com/products/rino120. Click on the “Accessories” tab and scroll down.

Best Regards,
