Installing the battery can't get the door opened to insert battery

Drawer pulls straight out. Use small screwdriver or metal nail file.
Copy following link for illustration and CR2 battery, and ez-to-follow programming, and wiring options.
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/ST01C-program.html#battery

Remember the drawer is also 'plugged' into the timer, so do not bend small metal prongs on drawer.

This timer comes with 1 year limited warranty against defects in workmanship.
The battery operates timer functions, so once battery is installed, the timer can be programmed before timer is installed in wall.
Be sure to reset timer before programming to eliminate stray code on the memory chip.
Once timer is programmed, the programs remain inside memory chip forever, even with power loss and no battery, until timer is reset of re-programmed.
Reset this timer: Hold down on-off button and momentarily push round reset button with paper clip. Keep holding down on-off until display changes, then release on-off button and begin setting current time and programs.

Cannot set the time or program the on/off cycle, only the reset button and manual on/off button work

Is this new timer, or old timer that stopped working.
Which timer do you have? Add a comment and describe the buttons.
Most plug-in digital timers have rechargeable battery, but some still have replaceable battery.
If battery has gone bad, then that matches description of problem you describe
Replace battery if timer has replaceable battery, otherwise buy new timer for $10 at local box store.

The self=adjusting wall switch timer does not go on as set but it goes off at the set time, I put in a new battery at the end of May but sometimes the Batt is flashing. The battery sure can't be...

1) Timer is not 100% identified.
Sounds like Intermatic ST01C or Ei600
Sounds like timer needs to be reset after battery change, and then reprogrammed again.

3) Open following links to help identify timer and download manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-timers-and-manuals.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/ST01C-program.html#battery

4) If timer does not show on links above, add a comment with clear description of timer and buttons for possible identification and manual.

5) Most battery operated timers require 'reset' after battery change.
Manual usually says to replace battery and timer is ready to go again.
However, most timers lose functionality with battery change. That's why timer is reset, and then reprogrammed.

6) If functionality is not restored after battery change and reset, then timer has gone bad.

7) Intermatic timer has 1 year limited warranty, and there is not much that can be offered except buy next timer at local store. For example Utilitec 0192773 is actually Intermatic product. Sold at Lowes. If timer goes bad 2 years later, buy another one and return defect in new package.

8) Take a moment and rate answer:
And take advantage of fixya expert assistance live.
For a price, expert works with you while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

I misplaced my instructions for my timer and need to re-set it after a power outage. Can you please send me the instructions? Thanks.

Question posted under Intermatic ST01C, but Timer is not 100% identified since ST01C is battery powered, and should not lose programming or stop working with ordinary power outage.
Most digital timers have a battery or capacitor back-up for power outage.
Add a comment with description of timer buttons, or open link below to see most brands of in-wall timer.

Open following link for to identify Intermatic ST01C and Ei600 and download instructions:
http://waterheatertimer.org/ST01C-program.html#battery
ST01C timer has a battery backup. Power outage will NOT cause battery-powered display to fail, but power outage and power surge can cause any electronic timer to fail.
So either the battery went dead, or power surge ruined timer, or you don't have ST01C timer.

If ST01c display is not showing, then replace battery and then reprogram current time -or- manually re-set timer and then reprogram timer.

How do we clear out the timer settings

Timer is not identified.
Open following link to identify timer and download manual.
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#zilla

1) If you have zilla digital power strip, there is no reset button.
It appears you can reset timer by removing small battery located on back of timer.
Battery serves as a back-up for timer settings, and display will not show without battery.
Most battery-operated timers that do not have reset button are reset by removing battery.

Some battery operated timers retain programming forever even if battery is removed for months, and then programming is still there when new battery is installed. However this type of timer has a reset button, but zilla does not.

2) A second way to clear programming is to press PRG button to review each program, and set each program to another time. I don't know if this will work since you can't 'zero' out the settings.

No digital display, does that mean the battery is dead

You posted under Intermatic ST01C timer.
Display on this timer goes blank when new CR2 battery is needed and when timer has gone bad.
Many times when a new battery is installed, the timer has to be reset and then reprogrammed.
If timer cannot be reprogrammed after battery install, then timer has gone bad.

Is this timer battery operated, does it need to get the battery changed or recharged. thanks

You posted under Westinghouse 3-outlet timer:

If this is not your timer, then add a comment.
The Westinghouse has internal rechargeable battery.
Plug timer in for 1 hour to charge battery.
This is not a replaceable battery.

Other brands of same timer might be different.
I have the Utilitec version of this timer and it has internal battery also.

The wall timer to my outside lights says "noop"

noop means no operation.
This usually shows on older timer.
You posted under Intermatic ST01C.
Other have written to fixya with same symptoms.

CR2 battery might be bad. Replace battery.
Replace battery quickly and current time remains in memory.
Battery out of timer longer than 30 seconds, then current time and day disappear.
Programming remains inside timer forever with or without battery until timer is reset.
Others report they changed battery and timer never came back to life afterward.
http://waterheatertimer.org/ST01C-program.html#battery

Manual troubleshoot section also suggests resetting timer, and then re-programming.
Manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-st01c.pdf
To reset timer, hold down ON-OFF button and push small round reset button with paper clip.
Push reset for 3 seconds and release.
Keep holding down ON-OFF until INIT shows on display.
Release ON-OFF and wait for display to show.
If display never shows, then battery is dead or timer is bad.
ST01C comes with 1 year limited warranty.

Advantage of Intermatic battery operated timer is simple wiring, plus astronomic function (dawn-dusk).
All in-wall timers have advantages and disadvantages.

The timer no longer working. I can only turn it on and off. It's a model that does not required voltage to work.

You posted under Aube in-wall timer.
If this is not your timer, add a comment.

Aube timers have a rechargeable battery that runs timer functions, and timer does not require 120 volts from circuit.

OK, I wrote to Aube about low temperatures affecting their battery.
Aube said, the battery is good down to freezing, and probably lower.
Lower temperatures cause display to slow down and not function, which means timer programs will not work when timer is exposed to cold temperatures.
Manual override would still work, but not programming or display.

So if timer is NOT located inside warm house, for example timer located in unheated garage or shed, then timer will not function in cold temperatures.

That being said, Aube battery is rechargeable.
Battery is not replaceable.
If Aube battery has gone bad, then timer is not repairable.

Intermatic ST01C and EJ500 in-wall timers are also battery operated. Intermatic ST01C and EJ500 battery can be replaced.
Almost all plug-in type timers also have a rechargeable battery that is not replaceable.
Several in-wall timers do not require a battery, but they need power from electric circuit.

Does not turn on exhaust fan motor in bathroom. Display functions work. Could it be the battery or the unit?

The problem can be either battery or timer.
Several people wrote fixya over past months saying that ST01C failed completely after installing new CR2 battery.
http://waterheatertimer.org/ST01C-program.html#battery

Battery operated timer, then weak battery can cause timer to malfunction.
