Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Garage door opener unresponsive.

I took apart my older Chamberlain Liftmaster Security Plus to replace Nylon gears that had stripped in the Wisconsin winter. I reassembled & left out the sensor cap so the motor would only go a couple inches. I was told about the infra red sensor so I disassembled & replaced the cap. I re-hung but now neither remote (wall or car) gets a peep out of the unit. I've tried cutting the power to reset & pushed the red button on the back. I've got the black striped wire from either side going to the right hand terminal the white from either side plus the white from the red wire going to the left terminal & the remaining red wire going to the far left. Power supply is good/light comes on. Any reset steps I've missed?

You need to reset the limit settings. There are three white screws on the bottom of the opener with the cover off. You will need to take the bottom off the gear and sprocket assembly. Turn the middle screw to where the wings are most of the way up and move the trolley to the up position. Put the bottom of the gear and sprocket back on and adjust the two other screws ti make door open and close completely

Check for a broken door spring and remove the cover from the motor unit and check for a stripped drive gear. The gear is white nylon and it will be obvious if it is bad.

Check your door springs and also remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and may be stripped.

I have a old Liftmaster Garage Door Opener. This morning when I pushed the button the motor went on but the chain didn't move to open the door. What's the story?

If you remove the cover I'm sure you will find the drive gear is stripped. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It is available at any good door opener service company and comes with instructions.

Craftsmen garage door is not opening. It started

Your drive gear must be stripped. Remove the cover and you will most likely find lots of what looks like white sawdust and a stripped gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. The part number is 41A2817 if you want to replace it and it comes with instructions. Available at any good door opener service company.

Door barely opens/ opens with physical lifting assistance

It sounds like you have a broken door spring or the drive gear in the opener is stripped. You will have to take the cover off the opener and you will find the white nylon gear just in front of the motor.

The nylon drive gear on Craftsman Garage Door keep stripping

The most common reason for this is a door that is too heavy. Release the door from the opener and lift it by hand. If it is heavy to you it is heavy for the opener. Be sure after replacing the gear to lubricate it heavily with the lubricant supplied with the gear. You can't apply too much.
