Yaesu 857D very poor audio out on SSB.

Dbl check your swr in am mode.. Ch your ssb power and mic gain default is 50 on both on hf .. If you use the mh-59 you will need to reduce the mic gain to 35 and it needs to be set for remote mic in the menu. Also the ssb needs to be set 2.5k wide with the ssb carrier zeroed both tx and rx

Yeasu FT990 Gone Deaf

This could be many things but a good place to look is the TX/RX and ATTENUATOR relays. These are problem areas in a lot of radios. This is a complicated radio and if you need to ask this question I would suggest you find someone that knows how to work on these. It will require a fair bit of skill to find the problem and replace the parts. The radio has a lot of surface mount components which are difficult to work with without causing more, and often, expensive damage.

My 857 receives fine, but when I key the mic it turns off. The 857 works fine on HF both receiving and transmitting.

I would have a look at the FT-857's extended service menu by holding in A, B, C buttons and pressing power button for a couple seconds. The default setttings are on the website. Should also ensure regular menu settings are correct/appropriate. I can tell you that it is possible to change extended menu settings by getting RFI into radio. Also, although unlikely, it sounds like you could inadvertently have done a write to the radio's EEPROM, which can be determined by using a program such as Ham Radio Deluxe, a CAT cable, and procedures also posted on website under how to open radio up for 60m, ext tx/rx, without any hardware mods. As to whether you can do all this while still mounted mobile,,,,,maybe with a laptop? Good luck, Link, WV4I....

There are numerous possibilities. You really need to go through the steps in the manual very carefully. Some of the possible issues:
1. Cable wired incorrectly - tx/rx switched, etc
2. Communication rate set wrong on computer (or different from radio).
3. CAT not enabled on radio
4. Wrong version of CAT software.

I'm not familiar with the radio itself, but it seems from the symptoms that the audio processor/stage is the only common problem i.e: audio does not work. Do you have a schematic for the unit? If so, I would follow the DC path to the audio stage and troubleshoot in that area. The other stage that can be suspected is the regulator stage. Hope it helps a bit.
