It is the buffer count for how many pics you can shoot in continuous mode.
Shooting in different formats (RAW, or Jpeg & sizes) affects the number.
Using a fast card also helps to speed up clear the buffer allowing you to shoot more frames at maximum speed.
Reading The Fine Manual is very helpful for queries such as these.

SOURCE: received an r05 notation on the number of exposure box of my Nikon D70. What does this mean? There is not annotation to such an error notice in the manual.

It's simply telling you that you can take five more pics in a burst before the buffer fills up. It's not an error, it's supposed to do that.

It's only a problem if it gets to r00 and stays there.

Make sure you're using the right connector and have it plugged into the bottom port of the D90. Make sure the D90 is NOT set to one of the remote shooting modes.

SOURCE: nikon d90. would a nikon sb25 flashgun work fully

Not fully. It will work in non-TTL and manual modes, but it will not work in TTL mode. That is, it will work but not in fully automatic like the newer flash units.

Is the Tamron AF08N700 auto focus with the D90?

Good morning. You have likely already gotten an answer to this, but yes, it will.

Unlike less expensive models such as the D40, D60, D3000 and D5000, the D90 has a built in autofocus motor, which means that all Nikon F-mount autofocus-lenses (except two for the rare Nikon F3AF) can be used in autofocus mode for all newer generation autofocus lenses like the Tamron 200-800. However, you may want to look around a bit, as Tamron has come out with a new 150-600 lens that is simply terrific (I know, I own one) and the Big Sig from Sigma is equally great.

FYI

Good luck.

What does error message "r18" mean on a Nikon D90?

Is this actually preventing you from shooting? Normally, the r-number shows up when you press the shutter release button to show the number of shots you can take in the current burst before the buffer fills up. It shouldn't keep you from shooting.

R05 error on nikon d80

The Nikon D-90 users manual says on page 256 that the ERR message indicates a camera malfunction and that it can be cleared by releasing the shutter.

I've found on my D-90 that the only way I can get the shutter to release is my turning the camera off. When I turn it back on the ERR message is gone and the camera functions as it should.

Occasionally, I have had to remove and reinstall the battery to make the camera turn off but this happens only rarely.

The users manual says if the condition occurs frequently or persists that you should contact a Nikon authorized repair center. I suggest that you contact Nikon tech support at www.nikon.com to see what they suggest. I think this information would apply to the D-80 as well.

The r05 is not an error message. It is an indication that the camera is shooting in burst mode (multiple shots with one button push) and that you can shoot five more shots before the camera must pause, clean its cache and be prepared to shoot again.

Nikon D90 and memory card counter

There doesn't seem to be a problem. The 3.7k means 3700, the k meaning thousand. If you were to take about 2700 pictures, you'll then see 999, then 998, and so on.

During using D90 for son's b-day my camera kept freezing up and giving a code of r05 and another code once that I don't remember. Why and what does r05 mean? I even turned the camera off at times but it...

The r05 is not an error. It's simply telling you that the buffer has room for five more pics. It's only a problem when it gets to 0 and stays there.

As to the other error, I'm afraid I can't help you there.

Metz 58 AF with Nikon d90 wont flash

Hi, Bad news for you.

Try this.
  1. put new batteries in flash.
  2. turn flash on off camera.
  3. listen for capacitor to squeal (high pitched whistle). If you hear it it is charging. If not capacitor is bad.
  4. Also should see flash ready light come on. If it does not same as #3 above.
  5. If you pass #3 & 4# above press manual flash/check/test button on flash. No flash means bulb is out. It can be replaced.
Hope this fixed ya. Please rate. Good Luck! Comment back if you need further assistance.
