PC doesn't work well after installing Windows VistaService Pack 1

After installing Windows Service Pack 1 my computer starts acting weird. The mouse-pointer shows the computer is busy ALL the time (showing the busy-circle).

Every few hours the mouse and keyboard stop working so I have to restart my computer again.

It also gives errormessages about my NVIDIA card. This is mostly about the nvlddmkm.sys. I have found a solution for this on the internet already and it now seems to work fine.

A few times a day my computer just stops working and restarts. Afterwards it gives an errormessage (the screen says Windows didnt shut off properly etc...).

I've bought this computer with complete installation so I don't have any Windows cd's etc.

I have tried to download some new driver-updates but I don't actually know which one I need. Or what my exact problem is.

The only (quick and good) solution for me is to get rid of the Service Pack. After this my computer works fine again. But ofcourse this isn't a right solution.

Help me please?!

Is there a number 2 already? I couldn't find that one for Vista. Is it on the microsoft site? Could it be possible that this one isn't available in Holland yet? I'm Dutch but I couldn't find any Dutch informatie about this.

    Thank you so far!

What Does It Mean When Support for My Operating System Ends?

Microsoft Support for Windows Vista (with no service packs installed) ended on April 13, 2010, while support for Windows XP (without Service Pack 3 installed) ended on July 13, 2010. Windows 2000 support ended on July 13, 2010 as well.
There is no Service Pack 3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014.
If you are still running a version of Windows where support has ended, it means that version of Windows will no longer receive any updates from the Windows Update or Microsoft Update site. These updates are generally provided for security reasons to help protect the PC from harmful viruses, spyware, malware, and other malicious software. Windows Update also provides new drivers for your hardware that can improve the reliability of Windows.
Hackers love to take a security vulnerability in Windows and exploit it to their advantage. So, if a vulnerability is found in Windows XP or Windows Vista and you are not running the latest service pack, you will not be protected and will be at risk.

How Can I Tell What Service Pack is Installed?
Follow these steps to discover what Service Pack is installed:
1) Click on the Start Button
2) Right-click on either My Computer or Computer (depending on your Windows version)
3) Click on Properties
On this window, it should tell you which version of Windows along with which service pack is installed). It should also tell you whether you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows.

I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. It worked

It could be a problem with the update. You could have used system restore to go back to before you installed the update. Re-imaging probably cancelled that. I would check for virus' before going any further. Download a program called malwarebytes (free version), install-update and scan. If nothing comes up try the system restore or uninstall the service pack. You can always reinstall it again later.

Download the latest driver for dvd rom from Acer that will work with Vista SP1. Also try uninstalling the device in device manager and restart your computer. Vista may find "new hardware" and install the driver from its driver pack in SP1.

Restore CD's

Here's what you can do (for Windows):

1. Prepare all of the restore/installation cd that you have. And check all of them for the kind of operating system, service pack, and version.

2. And on the computer, check the operating system, service pack, and version of the computer by clicking on Start button, select Run, and type in this keyword "winver" short for windows version.

3. A small window will show-up, it contains the windows logo, kind of windows operating system that you have, service pack, and version.

4. Match those information to the restore cd that you have. And look for the right one.

5. Install or Restore the computer that you want to be restored. Enjoy!

Thanks!
Your good rating will be very much appreciated!
