F 1 code - clothes take forever to dry

My Kenmore Elite HE3 Dryer is taking forever to dry any load. Sometimes an F code appears, but most of the time it just turns itself off, leaving warm damp clothes that sour rather quickly.

Awhile back, the Sears repair man was out to fix the washer and suggested it might be the thermister. What is a thermister? and how can I get to it?

Thank you for the help with the thermistor. You're absolutely right. It was an easy fix. The part just popped out and the new one popped right in! I can't believe how long I went without trying to fix it myself. If I had let the Sears guy fix it it would have cost the minimum $200 per fix charge plus parts.

I replaced the thermistor and the clothes still take 3 and 4 cycles to dry. What could still be the problem?

F01 - There may be an internal problem with the control, attempt a Hard Reset.

Hard Reset - In some cases the control can be non-functioning or may not accept activation from the control panel. To clear and restart the control follow the these steps:

* Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds.
* Reconnect the unit to the power source by turning the breaker back on or plugging the unit back into the wall outlet.
* Press the Pause/Cancel/Stop button twice to clear the "PF" in the display.
* Start a short cycle to check the operation of the machine by selecting a cycle and pressing and holding the start button until the machine starts.

The F01 generally indicates a failed electronic machine control board.
This error code can sometimes be caused by a glitch or power surge through the electrical lines.
You may be able to clear this code by unplugging the washer for 5 minutes.
If the code returns after plugging the washer back in, then the electronic machine control board will need to be replaced.

The procedure for accessing and replacing this control board is shown in this image...

http://media.fotki.com/1_p,wkwdftgtbkdgfrwxgtqsskgwtqkq,vi/ksrttqdqrxkssrqtgsd/1/1303472/5961857/image12917img-or.jpg

Be sure to unplug the washer before accessing internal components.
When you access the control board, I recommend transferring the wires from the old control board to the new replacement control board one connection at a time.
Once you have all of the wires transferred, remove the old control board and mount the new control board in the washer.
Reassemble and test the washer.

The "F01" error code indicates a communication error between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the EEPROM onboard the CCU.
The "F01" can also be displayed if the onboard "Pump Driver" fails to activate.
Generally in order to correct this failure will require replacing the CCU.
There is no way to test and verify if the control board has failed.
The technical data sheet basically states to replace the CCU.

It probably is the thermistor. I used to work for Sears and that code means that something is wrong with the thermistor or the thermostat. It is located on the heating element housing. If you remove the lower panel by taking out the two screws that keep it in place you will see the lint screen housing. Remove that and you will see the heating element. The thermistor is located on the heating element housing somewhere. It's hard to say exactly where as it varies by model. There are three things on it though, the thermal fuse which is small and has two wires coming from it. The thermostat which is a bit bigger and the thermistor. The easiest way to find which one it is is by hooking up a volt meter to each one to see which is not getting the proper voltage. The Sears guy should have fixed it when he was out there, it's not an expensive repair. The part is only around 15 dollars and the labor is cheap. Let me know though if you have any other questions and if this was helpful. Good luck and have a good weekend.

I am glad I could help. Yeah, Sears does tend to get expensive with repairs if you don't have the warranties with them. Glad I could help though. If you have any other problems any time just send me a message from my profile. I will be happy to help.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

Kenmore Elite HE3 front loader F-11 and FDL codes

yes!! the F/11 is triggered under high voltage conditions like high speed spinning. The part is called the MCU motor control unit. if it goes into failure while using your machine and locks the door, just wait 3 minutes and the door will unlock after the MCU resets. Try using you machine with a low speed spin for awhile.

My Kenmore Elite (Whirlpool) HE3 elctric dryer is no

A dryer not heating usually means that either the heating element is burned/broken (open circuit); a thermal fuse in line with the heating element is blown or; a thermostat is faulty.

Dryer needs to be partially disassembled to diagnose with a multimeter.
