Question about Texas Instruments TI-34II Explorer Plus Calculator

I don't know how to do factorials, when I have more than one step.

For example, 10! divided by (4!)(18!).

Where to start. Most things we do in math are in base 10, probably because we have 10 fingers. Instead of base 10, binary is base 2. In computers, binary rules because a bit can be set to ON or OFF, 1 being ON, and 0 being OFF.

So the next thing is counting. 0 1 10 11 100 101 110 111 1000 1001

How to convert from binary to decimal? Line up the columns and multiply down. For example, 1101. The columns, starting from the right are 2^0, 2^1, 2^2, 2^3, reading ^ as exponent.

Next step is to add them up. 8+4+1 = 13!

Going the other way, we have to divide by the largest 2^x number, so what is left over and continue dividing until nothing is left.

For example, 56. 2^5 (32) is the largest 2^x number that goes into 56, so we put a 1 in this column. Our remainder is 24. 2^4 (16) goes into this once, so we put a 1 in this column. Our remainder is 8. 2^3(8) goes into this once, so we put a 1 in this column. Now the remainder is 0 so we put a 0 in the 2^2 (4) column, 2^1(2) column, and 2^0 (1) column.

We end up with 111000.

Use the rules for exponents and you will calculate it by hand

(1*10^-14)/(5*10^-12)=(1/5)*10^(-14+12)= 0.2*10^-2=2*10-3

To enter powers of 10 use the short-cut key [EE]

Sorry but you are using the word EQUATION incorrectly. All you have is two numbers you want to divide one by the other.

Enter the numerator 1EE (-) 14, press the division key / then enter the 5 EE (-) 12. Press the = sign.

Note: to enter the negative sign in the exponents, use the change sign key marked**(-), (+/-) or [+/-] **. Do not use the regular MINUS sign.

Like many other Casio calculators, the fx-83GT Plus doesn't provide the modulus function. You have to do it the hard way.

To calculate 19 MOD 10 (which is 9, not 10 as you state in your question), first divide 19 by 10 and note the integer portion of the result (in this case, 1). Then subtract from 19 the product of 10 and the result of the first step. The result of the subtraction is the modulus. 19 - (1*10) = 9.

The TI-84 is limited to numbers with at most twelve significant digits.

If you must know the EXACT value of 16!, try this. Calculate 14!. Note the two zeroes at the end. Strip them off by dividing by 100 and remember the two zeroes. Multiply by 15. I don't think there's specific key for this but you can do it this way:

- Divide those 2 numbers for which you want to find gcf
- If you get result as decimal number press keys [2nd][PRB] to display it as fraction
- Also if fraction you get is in form a b/c (ex. 1 2/3) you have to convert it to form d/c (for 1 2/3 that would be 5/3)
- Greatest common factor is then 1st number divided by numerator (or 2nd number divided by denominator)

- You want to find greatest common factor of 30 and 18.
- You divide them: you should get 5/3 (after converting result to fraction of form d/c, as described in steps 2 and 3).
- This means that 30/18=5/3=5x/3x (x is gcf here).
- Now you know that x=30/5=18/3=6 so greatest common factor is 6.
