THE FAN IS ACTUALLY A WINWARD II BY HAMPTON BAY. ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTION MANUAL YOU TURN THE GLASS BOWL COVERING THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY UNTIL IT MAKES CONTACT WITH A COUPLE OF GROOVES IN THE RIM AND THE GLASS ASSEMBLY SHOULD RELEASE. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY HELP FROM "FIXYA" BUT MAYBE THIS INFO WILL HELP SOMEONE ELSE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE MODEL # OF THE HAMPTON BAY FAN WAS 523 342. (I FOUND MY INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND THIS IS WHERE I GOT MY INFO)

Home Depot should stock them. If not, you should be able to order it online from them. Hampton Bay make fans exclusively for Home Depot.

Ok, firstly, you need to have a look at the wiring, is all the wires isolated properly The fact that it works occasionally, can either be a mini short, or, most likely in my opinion a faulty switch.
This specific model is however discontinued, so, getting the parts needed for this specific model will be hard, but, you can buy this pull switch from any electrical outlet. Basically you can buy a generic version of the switch, as long as you can make it fit, there is different sizes, so you need to have a look at the size of the original switch before you buy another one.
Also, because you already had this fan installed and you moved it, you might just want to open it up, and have a look if you can see any loose connections due to the movement. This is actually a very common problem, due to the vibration of the fan itself.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions.

I have a 3 wire 1.8 uf and 2.7 uf fan capacitor. Mfg suggests to replace with 3 wire 4 uf and 5 uf. What will this do ? Any harm.
