Two things, One you may have a low gas presure problem causing a bulid up of soot on your pilot, this will be a small ball of soot on your pilot and can be seen with a light and a mirror. when you hit the heater you cause it to move and the burner will start. If you just reach in with a screwdriver or something and clearit it should start but you should have your pressure checked and have the problem fixed or down the road it will cause other problems. Or if you live in the right (or wrong) aera of the country you could have spider webs in your gas orfaces and these can be cleared with a bent wire inserted into the orfaces. This is a problem that will reoccur as these are hard to control. Try these and see if they help and let me know how you do. good luck.

Convert Laars lite model lg125n to LP gas

That involves changing out the complete burner tray including the igniter/pilot assembly, burners and the gas valve. It runs deep into the cost of a new heater, (well over $1000, not installed).

It would seem that this unit has had a conversion done from Nat to LPG or visa versa..the main gas valve and burners need to be adjusted

Burner cycles on and off within 2-5 seconds. What could the problem be? Model Teledyne Laars LLD250N

Sounds like the flame sensor. If the sensor doesn't see a flame, it shuts off. Good luck...Lee
