Most likely a motor coupling. Take off the cabinet by removing the screws around the control panel. Take of the pump by releasing the 2 clips on the top and bottom. Take off the motor with same 2 clips but they are probably screwed on as well. the coupling is right there. They will break if a machine is overloaded.

I have a whirlpool ultim as text care heavy duty super capacity plus washing machine. Will only go through one cycle..will stop and hum. What could be wrong?

if it stops at the beginning of the wash cycle , it could be a failed start/run capacitor for the motor
if it hums at the start of a rinse cycle it could be a problem water control solenoid
Humming in a machine is a frequency vibration caused when something that is supposed to move is not allowed to and the resultant frequency sets up a vibration in the unit
if under warranty , get in a technician for a warranty fix ---if not get in a technician to check it out and get a quote for repairs

My washing machine (model LSB6300LWO) makes a noise but won't spin. I think I overloaded the machine because it was working fine until I put two heavy blankets inside. I'm semi-handy - is this...

Hello,
It sounds like perhaps the motor coupler is broken..it is something that wears out and the 2 blankets didnt necessarly cause it but was the final end of a already worn part...it is pretty easy to replace the coupler and this youtube video will show ya step by step how to replace it.

The part number for it is 285753A your local appliance parts store would have one or it could be ordered online at;
searspartsdirect.com
apdepot.com

Turn off ALARM - Whirlpool washer

This sounds like the imbalanced load alarm. This can occur with large heavy loads like blankets, bedding, lots of diapers (cloth), jeans etc. The best solution is to wash lighter loads and not overload the machine. If overloading continues, the machine could be damaged.

Dear shelldon39, Fri 2-20-2009 9:24pm EST (USA)

Some machines will shut down during the spin cycle as a precaution to prevent damage!

They will do this if you overload the washer with clothes and/or use too much detergent!

If this doesn't help please get back to me with more details!

No power?

Timer is normally 2%of the problem. Usually if nothing happens at all, one would check incomming power, then door latch and or limit switch, then once switched off, inspect in control panel for blown fuse. It gets a little more technical after that as wiring sometimes runs through solonoid valves and motor windings to complete the circuit.
