Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

Warm refridge, ice maker not dispelling ice, freezer not freezing

We noticed the back wall of the freezer was iced up.There also were no ice cubes being made by the ice maker. The freezer contents were becoming unfrozen and the main fridge was warmer and some foods were smelling.

I took the back inside panel of the freezer off and used a hair dryer to clear the ice. I found the screw that turns the fan on, and clicked it until the fan turned of.I waited an hour for the ice to form in the freezer coils in the freezer. I checked the freezer area and saw that the orange tube was not lit..

What do i do now? the compressor has been hot this whole time..
Thanks guys

Thanks, I called a refrigeration guy he replaced the heating element and thermostat.

The fridge works perfectly now. He said the symptoms made the problem easy to figure out.

Thank goodness it wasnt the compressor, as one posting said.

The thermostat and heating element comes together when purchased. The web prices start at $35 and go up to over $70 for the exact same parts!

My repair guy was great and only charged me $45 for the job.

Check the heater unit.

You need an OHM meter. Set them meter to OHM and touch the two leads together and you should get a reading. The exact number of OHM's is not important for this test. You are only checking for continuity. Touch one lead to one end of the heater unit and one to the other, this will tell you if this unit has a break inside. If no reading, replace the heater.

Check the thermostat disk.
This is a small round disk (nickle size) clipped to the coils right where they come into the freezer. Check it the same as the heater. This disk must be below 32 degrees to show continuity. If there is any doubt just replace it, not that expensive.

Ice maker not making much ice makes only about 20 cubes all day

Ice maker only take water in and waits for the freezer to freeze it, then dumps it into the tray. If it take too long to dump, you are probably on the way to a freezing problem.
First check for presence of frost on the back wall of the freezer. You may also check freezer temp, should be at "0" . Note that a stocked freezer makes ice faster than an empty one.

Water leaking than freezing on floor of lower draw under ice maker in subzero 700tf freezer

If cubes are very large the ice maker may be overfilling and need the fill adjusted to allow less water into the maker. Otherwise check the fill tube (runs from the back wall to ice maker) for loose connections or cracked tubing. (In this instance the cubes would be smaller than usual.) If neither of these is the source, then look up to the highest point of ice (water flows downhill) for the origin. Suspect a stopped up defrost drain. Thaw and clear ice, then clear drain tube (DO NOT use a wire for this) with warm water and a turkey baster. Once water is flowing through tube and into drain pan under the unit the problem should be solved.

Ice maker is not working properly. I noticed that it dumped water into the ice catcher and fused all the ice cubes together. Now it fills but is not producing any ice. We have the freezer temperature...

Feel under Ice maker to see if it is warm. This is a heater that comes on to loosen the ice cubes just long enough to allow the cubes to slide out of their ice slots. The only remedy is to replace the Ice maker model=> D7824706Q Ice Maker Assembly
Please let me kow if this is helpful or if something different may be happing, Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE Profile PSS26PSTA SS freezer problem

Forget the warranty - it is only for the compressor and that is usually five years. Did you check for freezer temp - wet cubes indicates too warm up there. Water dispenser lines may be clogged.

If low temps you may have low refrigerant or a defrost mechanism not working - if not working there should be ice buildup on line entering the evaporator in back of compartment.

Our subzero freezer has a new problem. The cubes

Ice cubes WILL BE slightly moist when they land in the ice bucket. they've just been slightly melted in order to eject from the ice maker. Stop playing with the settings, for starters. put them back to normal, i.e., middle setting, place thermometer in center of freezer, and if you can, one in center of fresh food. monitor after 24 hours, and for the next three days thereafter. freezer temps should be in the -5 - +5°F, sometimes up to 10°, fresh food should be 35-40, sometimes up to 44°at the normal settings. If you are not having temperature issues, see if you notice any frozen drips of water on the underside of icemaker, indicating a possible crack in the ice maker mold, or a faulty water valve. You didnt include your model and serial number, so not knowing the path of the ice shoot, some go out the freezer door, some slide over and get dispensed from the fresh food side. Its possible you may have a problem instead with the flapping door that opens to allow ice cubes to be dispensed, or similar type mechanism. If this door does not seat completely when its closed, it will leak warm air directly into the ice bucket, which would make them slightly moist, also too, this warm air can cause frost and ice to buildup near the warm air source...look for any unusual forms of ice and or frost leading up from the flapping door to the ice bucket. Also look for any gaps in the door gasket when closed, this warm air leak can also cause similar problems, but its most likely with the ice door. could be the door, the spring, the solenoid, or something else i wouldn't know without personal refrigerator inspection.

Ice maker doesn't work

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it freezes and dumps the cubes , but doesn't fill with water , replace the water inlet valve ( the piece that the wall water line connects to on the fridge ) . Also check to be sure that the fill tube from the back of the freezer to the ice maker , isn't blocked with ice , as this is caused by a seeping bad water valve . If the ice maker doesn't dump the cubes , after freezing , then replace the ice maker . Also check to make sure the coils under the front of the refrig , are clean of dust , lint , pet hair , etc.

Ice maker stopped making ice. Now water continuously drips.

Replace the water valve behind refrig , where the wall water line connects to on refrig .
