Question about Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

First of all let me preface this by saying that I don't chat a lot and I don't use abbreviated words so I might wear your patience thin because I type kinda slow. Nonetheless, I have a dell E773c monitor and that auto menu or the menu you use the buttons on the monitor to adjust contrast and the like keeps flashing on and off. It's annoying to say the least. I tried to uninstall the drivers. Didn't work. Do you have to say about this?

I appreciate your advice and that probably might be what it is but I've never had this problem before on any monitor I've ever had. Nevertheless I'm going to hold out for more feedback from other people. Again thank you for your prompt response and your kind advice for my, as it might be, ailing dell monitor.

Hi, I would say its nothing to do with your drivers as these basically tell the pc what monitor you have and how to interact with it. It sounds like the buttons and/or associated circuits on the monitor relating to the monitor menus are on the way out. It may be possible to fix, but you would have to take it to a repair centre.

Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If the voltage is absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Since your PB uses LED back-lighting, there is no florescent tube or the associated and often failed inverter.
You may have hit on the source of the problem; the old 'loose wire' or equivalent but in modern electronics it's more likely a flaky connector.
The challenge is getting inside a laptop.
Most of the mating case points are secured with minuscule screws for which the right tools are needed and often, a 'pry bar' made of tough thin plastic (I used/use epoxy circuit board material with an added bevel) to finish separating at the joints since these are normally snapped together, then secured with a few screws.
There will be a risk of cosmetic damage if not done with utmost care and patience.
The display is actually a separate assembly once separated from the base/keyboard section and will have the mentioned very delicate connectors that may be causing your problem.
Once located, you should carefully unplug, then re-plug several times to 'wipe' the mating contacts.
In many cases, you can have the connectors seated and turn on the unit before totally reassembling and once booted, tap or gently wiggle the connectors to see if they are in stable contact.
Good luck-

I have a old CRT Proview monitor. It has developed a problem of exceeding display sidways, means the display from left and right side of screen goes beyond, I have adjust manually left and right to view...

Well, if the adjustment buttons don't work, then probably the control unit in the monitor is broken, or a key is stuck. If the control unit needs servicing, I doubt if it's feasible to have it repaired, given the fact that it's an old monitor and new or used nice slim LCD monitors can be purchased cheaply nowadays.

Do you have your PC video resolution set to the native resolution of this monitor for best pictures?
It should be 1680 x 1050 @60Hz.
Does it do the same with another PC?
Please post back what you find.

Thin Green line from top to bottom of screen

Usually the case with this issue is the LCD panel itself. After a certain long period of time, some LCD panels just bug out and stop working. ( not sure why, possibly the way they were assembled and manufactured. For instance the LCD Panel has 8 connectors ((top)) and 3 connectors ((left)) (((Depends on model)))that attach to the main board of the LCD Panel, and on many occasions the thin lines wear and cut and therefore loosing part of your screen. If i explain further how it works i can write you a good explanation, just message me. That is the issue or the Cable connector from the Video Card to the LCD Panel is faulty. Try replacing that or the line will stay there for a long while then eventually your LCD display will begin to show more lines and eventualy Nebula itself. ( unusable )

You can also try repairing the LCD, in some rare cases the only problem when the line shows up is because of the video genesis card inside the FPD. try swapping that out with a known good one and perhaps that will work otherwise eventually the monitor will begin to stop working over time.

Bright, thin line, in the middle of the screen, then...

1. I turn on the monitor, I hear a 'cracklin' sound
Reply: In a CRT Monitor there is a component called EHT which generates High voltage which is connected to the anode of the CRT, If there is any leakage due to moisture can cause this crackiling sound, You need to clean this high tension wire or replace the EHT ( CAUTION : BE AWARE OF HIGH VOLTAGES )

2. The screen only shows a bright, thin line.
Reply: The vertical Drive section of the monitor is faulty.
