  To unlock your phone you will need to enter combination of numbers. These numbers are just a math calculation of IMEI number of your phone. To find your phones IMEI number, look under the battery - it is 15 digits.
  
  There are different online services that will generated the unlock code for your IMEI number for just about 20$. I can recommens unlocking.com (cheap and reliable).

IF DONE CORRECTLY IT WILL SAY SYSTEM UNLOCKED.
NOW PLACE ANY SIM FROM ANY CARRIER AND ENJOY....

of course there is always a risk when unlocking your phone that you will loose all data... HOWEVER!!! the sim will not be affected and neither will the memory card if you just do a manual reboot yourself. this is what i had to do. plus you can connect the phone to a computer and take off the music and pictures that were stored to the phone even while it's locked, but you do unfortunately loose all contacts, texts, and emails that were stored to your phone.

this is how to do a manual reboot (which i think was definitely the best solution in this scenario):
hold down the top part of the circle (the thing that turns in the middle of the phone not the button in the center of that) while pressing the power button when the phone is in the off position. obviously to get a locked phone into the off position you have to remove the battery while the phone is still on (but you've already figured that out). when you turn the phone back on it will ask you if you want to do the manual reboot, and then it will also ask you if you are ok with the fact that it will return all setting back to the way the phone was when it came from the manufacturer... to these questions you must answer yes or the phone will just turn right back off and you will have done nothing.

IF YOU ARE SCARED that you're going to loose the data on the memory card when you do this (you wont, but just in case) you can remove the memory card, however the sim must be in the phone when you do this

If you have forgotten your password or its been changed you can reset your phone by powering off the phone and holding the up function on the scroll when u turn it back on. Be forwarned u will lose all info on the phone. Try to active sync it to ur pc first to back up data. if no luck just be prepared for next time.

To unlock ANY phone from ANY service provider all you have to do is call the provider the phone is originally from and tell them you need the unlock code for the phone in question. They will ask you for the make and model of the phone and also the IMEI. Then they will find the specific unlock code for that particular phone. With them still on the phone make sure it works and presto!!! You can use the phone with any provider that also uses a SIM.

Cingular dose give up to $25.00 credit but you have to have a very good reason, usually it is up to 1yr. ie. no coverage in a area or phone not operating well. Other wise to find unlock codes Google by typing free unlock codes. You don’t have to pay money, but varies on the ph and provider and manufacture.

if you use the reset codes you can damage your phone or loose reception because the calibration settings are also resetted..

Better use a pro service.. like remote unlocking.
