Question about Maytag Legacy Series Top Load Washer

1 Answer

My Maytag Legacy SAV515DEWW does not drain and spills over..

About 3 weeks ago my maytag washer stopped working. I checked it and the belt burned up. So I went ahead replaced the belt and the pulley. Belt started to spin sort of slowly and then it burned again during the first wash. Not only did the belt burn but water was on the ground since it was not draining.

I decided to remove the brakes and replaced the belt again. Now the machine is spinning extremely fast but obviously will not brake which is fine for now but the machine will still not drain.

Yes I checked the drain hose since when I first took the motor and belt out I had to remove the hose and water came gushing from there. There are no kinks in the back of the machine.

So I called the repair man and asked him for his suggestion and he said the machine needs its brakes in order to drain. So I went ahead and ordered the brakes and they should be here by tuesday. Now I hope that is it but I do not know I am hoping that any of you experts could help me with other suggestions.

Thanks for your reply. So the issue was 2 things. The inside of the water pump was stripped so that was the reason why the water was not flowing through. once I installed the New Pump and the New brakes. The washer is running perfectly.

Well, turn the water off, install the old brakes (or wait for the new), and run the unit through a cycle (without clothes) to pump all the water out.

With the new brakes installed, and the drum empty of water, turn the water back on, run the unit through a cycle to confirm all works properly. If not, make the additional needed repairs before proceeding. If it works fine, then your good to go and start washing clothes again.

The drive motor which spins the drum is connected to the drum by a rubber belt. Sounds like the belt is burned through. Make sure you can spin the inside tub by hand to verify that the tub can turn freely before you replace the belt. The hum is from the drive motor just spinning freely.

During wash cycle of my Maytag Legacy SAV515DEWW, tub moves freely and after spin cycle, tub keeps spinning for a while.

Maytag has a drum brake located on the bottom of yor machine. You need to remove the brake and clean it up or perhaps replace the device.

Maytag washer repair

I had the repair guys out 3 months ago maytag paid for labor I paid $150 for seal and bearings, tub froze and belt broke. the tub now is making the loud screams that others complain about I contacted maytag and reapir servce and talked with the tech. this machine is a piece of S$%^ the seal fails on a regular basis and bearings get water in them. I just missed my 3 month waranty and will not pay for that repair again. people at home depot agree that this machine is trouble. the machine must be taken completely down from the top to replace the bearings and or the belt. the tub must be removed. If you call maytag they will pay for the labor but not the parts.
