A good way to get a direct replacement is to call the manufacture. But they tend to charge a lot of money. Another way is to go to you can do a search for your make and model and the are not to exspensive.

Just bought a Toshiba refurbished DVD/VCR player. The remote doesn't work at all. I've doublechecked the NEW batteries and tried a tip of pushing EVERY button with the batteries out. Any ideas

1) the batteries will be the same type and full charged
2) clean the contacts battery from dirty, dust, oxide or corrosion
3) retight the spring contacts battery with pliers for a GOOD contacts
4) open the remote.control and clean the keypads switch, from dirty, dust, oxide, Open contacts, or Bad contacts. they emite a good signal infrared from SYScon transmi vs Syscon receiver.
see the block diagram. If doesnot resolve the problem go to the repair shop TV for fix it.
God bless you

Problems ah59-02303a not working

The remote can be tested--shops use a card which when remote is pointed at and buttons pressed--a strip on the card lights up.

Many digital cameras in a dark or very dim room will react on the display screen in the same way--faint flash will be seen if remote is working.

If remote is tested and found to be good---try it very close to unit--you if no response at all and remote is good have a bad remote receiver in the unit(make sure the receiver lens is not blocked or dirty).

Remote doesn't work. Battery checks out.

The remote itself can easily be tested--most electronics repair places have a tester--point remote at it and press button and tester reacts with a light etc--some digital cameras will do the same on the display screen.

Common issues with remotes that have been stored are batteries leak and tabs and springs that connect do not work--good cleaning with a sharp knife or small file will resolve that but if the leak got inside the remote it can be fatal.

First step is test the remote---other possible reason is remote sensor on front is dirty (blocking signal) or defective.

It does no obey to any commands other than lighting up with the letters (RC1)

RC 1 or DVD 1 is the unit's default remote command mode. You can try the following with the remote:

While the unit is on, pick up the remote, then press and hold [ ENTER/OK ] and the number [ 1 ] button together for 5 - 10 seconds, then release. Repeat the procedure if it makes no difference and the unit still ignores the remote. If it doesn't work, try new batteries, then repeat the above.

{ You can reset the unit if necessary (press and hold [ CH UP ] and [ CH DOWN ] button together for 5 - 10 seconds on the front panel (not the remote), until 'SETUP' appears in the display). }

Hopefully this should help a bit. You should not need to continuously reset either the main unit or the remote.

Parental Controls

I am having the same problem. I have a Mintek 2110, but lost the remote control. I found this code on the Time Warner Cable site. 2096. I'm going to try and plug it into my universal remote this evening. If that works, the default passcode should be 88888. That's what I remember my code being years ago.
