Question about Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Dell E173FP´s main menu keeps flashing up

I have a Dell monitor (the old kind, not an LCD monitor) E773C and the auto-adjust or you know that menu that you go into to adjust contrast and the like keeps coming up on the screen and annoyingly (as I write this even, which is a royal pain to write this to you--but I will endure.) Have you ever heard of this problem? I tried uninstalling the drivers for the monitor. Doesn't work. In fact, that made it worse. I've been having this problem now for a few months. Not until recently has it gotten more frequent and more annoying. I would appreciate any help you can suggest.

Thanks.

The trouble is probably due to failure of one or more of the switches on the circuit board that the front panel buttons operate. Sometimes they begin to act up from age and use, and sometimes they suffer from the "Windex syndrome." That's when spray cleaner has been used to clean the face of the picture tube, and some of it runs down and gets into the switches and associated parts. The best cure is to replace the switches and check the parts around them for damage or changed values. A number of vendors online offer replacement switches ("tactile switches" is what that type is called). Changing them requires skill in soldering, but it's not an impossible task. If you don't feel up to trying it yourself, you could check at a TV service shop to see what they would charge. Or, given today's low prices on LCD monitors, it might be a good time to consider replacing the CRT version you have now.

Here you go!
From Dell website:
'OSD Lock': Controls user access to adjustments. When 'Yes' (+) is selected, no user adjustments are allowed. All buttons are locked except the menu button.
All buttons can be locked or unlocked when the 'Menu' button is pushed and held for over 15 seconds. See more here:

Sounds like it could be an issue with the button I would suggest calling Dell Tech Support on 1300-655-533, they ask for a service code but see how you go.

First of all let me preface this by saying that I don't chat a lot and I don't use abbreviated words so I might wear your patience thin because I type kinda slow. Nonetheless, I have a dell E773c monitor...

Hi, I would say its nothing to do with your drivers as these basically tell the pc what monitor you have and how to interact with it. It sounds like the buttons and/or associated circuits on the monitor relating to the monitor menus are on the way out. It may be possible to fix, but you would have to take it to a repair centre.

Dell E173FP LCD Monitor

Yes, it does appear as if there is a loose connection somewhere inside, or a faulty IC chip. However, I wouldn't recommend opening it up, as there can be any number of reasons why this can be happening, and if you have no prior experience, there is no point opening it up. I recommend getting it serviced, or purchase a new monitor...whichever works out cheaper for you.

E173FP 17" LCD Monitor Problem

I have the same problem. It seems like a virus to me, but my anti-virus doesn't find anything. I went to the main menu on the moniter and changed the display time to five seconds and locked the OSD display. Now all the appears is a smaller box showing a lock which goes out in five seconds. It is still annoying, but less intrusive then before. Hopefully, some one will determine a permanent fix for this problem.
