Question about Lexmark JetPrinter X1185 All-In-One InkJet

My dad has Vista and a Lexmark x1240 printer. Try explaining "DOESN'T WORK" to the nontech savvy. One link that was provided for the solution was the Vista driver from this site:,6959,204816596_1019285789_0_en,00.html From there I clicked on the link for the 1200 shown below It turns out I have the exact same file in my shared folded I've been using to try and fix it before. I mean perfectly exact: file size, signitures etc etc I went through all the properties of those two files. Is there something else that won't make this work? Maybe a USB thing. Maybe I don't have the net admin account enabled for full control over the installation. If I truely uninstall the old and put on this file as given from the above link and only plug in the USB when direct WILL IT WORK?

    Vista 32-bit

    Program and Features > uninstalled Lexmark 1200 series.

    Didn't restart imediately but checked Device manager for any software.

    Began restart process.

    Before Windows logged off I unplugged the USB cable from the computer.

    Installing software as given from the site:

    Before installing, I removed the folder and contents c:\drivers\printer\*.* as this is where it was installed before.

    Install began and later asked me to plug in the USB cable and turn it on.

    This picture explains the rest and how this is not the complete solution!

Well it says its not communicating,plus the software is not signed,and i have the darn disc,it was instaled on my hp laptop,now trying to install on my acer with vista,it says drivers are instaled but still wont work

Files are the same but the problem is in the RESULTs of the installed drive you get when you run downloaded file.
Uninstall previous installation, remove every printer connection, restart windows, reinstall drivers.
reconnect prt and allow ystem to reckon it.
It will work if no other conflicting parameters are found: USB version (1.1/2.0), usb config in control panel, how many usb unit you have, uninstalled drive for other printers, etc

First u need to find if u have vista-32 or vista-64...first make sure u uninstall the previous drivers..restart your computer after that...plug in USB cable.install the driver--name of file should be cjrX1200en.exe...first the unzips to your computer..u would then see the installation screen--follow instructions until you see installation complete..

Lexmark X1240: tried to uninstall and reinstall

Please make sure that the printer is actually VISTA compatible (it should say it on the box) If it is compatible then there is a good chance that the drivers need to be updated. (even if you just bought it) Your first option would be to download the driver directly from (forget the CD that came with it) Your other option is to download the drivers for LEXMARK X1250 (I have tried this many times with other printers and they worked just fine) I have also used these two web sites to download the drivers for other printers and it seems to work ok so far. Lexmark x1240 won't work with windows vista

You may copy and paste the web address below to access the Lexmark X1270 printer Vista driver:

Please select "Windows Vista" from the drop down list and use the following steps to download the Lexmark X1270 Vista driver to your desktop:

1. Click on "Download Now."
2. On the "File Download" screen, choose "Save."
3. The next screen will be titled "Save As." Choose to "Save in Desktop" and click "OK."
4. You should see files being transferred.
****Note**** If your browser uses a different file downloading format than specified above, you will need to resort to your browsers help files for downloading instructions. The object of steps 1 - 4 is to download the driver to your desktop. This way it is easily accessible.
5. Once the files have completed downloading, double click on the icon with your file name.
6. On the "Win Zip Self-Extractor" screen click "OK." To unzip the downloaded file choose "Unzip."
7. A screen will then display the number of files unzipped successfully, click "OK."

I was told to go online and find how to download the windows vista download for my dads printerit is a x1240

Installation of a downloaded driver for Lexmark X1290 All-In_One


You need to download the Vista compatible setup here from Lexmark,

Run the setup after it finishes downloading but ONLY connect the printer to the computer when the setup instructs you to do so.

Drivers for lexmark x1240

In order for your lemark printer to work on your vista computer I was told that you have to got to lemark and download vista printer drivers. I also have a vista computer which I just got so I need to install driver for it to work with my lexmark all in one. Try this and see what happens.

There is no driver for Windows XP...Lexmark does make one for Vista Ironically.
