SOURCE: Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator, evaporator fan not running

As insignificant as it may seem, that evap fan motor is as important as petrol in a car. That fan controls the fridge cooling on many fridges and circulation in tha freezer compartment. Replace it with the correct one and you should see a functional fridge/ freezer again. Note, i wouldnt run unit without it for long, as condensig temperatures run high and compressors dont last long.

SOURCE: My frig. is not cooling

Sorry to hear about your problem. Sounds like you have a defrost issue. Hence your unit is not defrosting. All of this apply's if your freezer side has ice on it. If not. you have other issues
Here is a list of some things that can go wrong.
1. Defective heat coil
2. Defective defrost timer
3. Defective defrost sensor
You should call a service company to resolve your issue.

Since I tried to help you, Please help me and Rate/Vote on the response. Thanks

First thing to do is unplug your unit for one hour and then plug it back in to see if the control board will reset itself. If you are still getting the SY EF error codes then you will need to replace the controller board

SOURCE: On the freezer and fridge

There is either something wrong with the fan or the computer. But the only thing you can do is go through the owners manual if you can't correct it with that you will have to call for warranty service. If you go any further then that you will void the warranty.

The short answer is that EF on the Electrolux refrigerator digital display means "evaporator fan." The long answer is, it doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong with your Electrolux refrigerator.

Hope helps.

I have a Frigidaire refrigerator. The error codes messages are EF and SY. The part # is: 241509402 and model # is: LGHS2634KP0 D. W for Model Number 241509402
ANSWER Hello D. W. The error code that you are getting indicates a Evaporator fan 241509402 failure. You want to check the wiring at the fan motor and at the control board. Check for 12vdc to fan between red and brown wires. Check for variant voltage (depending on high or low speed) between yellow and brown. If it checks ok then replace the Evaporator fan. If error code still exists then replace main control board 5303918514. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter.

Control panel displays 5y ef Model #FGHS2655PF5A

This error is a SY EF (system evaporator fault). The evaporator sensor is not reading enough air flow through the system. The problem could be the evaporator sensor or the evaporator motor.

It can also be linked to a faulty control board. To rule out a problem between the fan and the control board, you can check for 12V DC between the brown and the red wires. You can also check for voltage variations between the yellow and brown wires. (This voltage will depend on if the fan is on high or low speed.) If the voltages are good, replace the motor. If the voltages are faulty, replace the control board.

If you can hear the evaporator running and feel air moving in the freezer, the sensor is more likely to be faulty. (The evaporator is inside the freezer at the back.)

The parts diagrams for the FGHS2655PF5A evaporator is here: . Parts are available from other vendors as well. is one alternate vendor.

I hope this helps.

My refrigerator is not keeping temp and there is a code on the water/ice machine reads S(or 5)y EF. What does this code indicate?

If I'm not mistaken EF error code stands for Evaporator Fan which is the fan motor in the back of the freezer section. That would explain the noise you heard. The fan could possibly be frozen or stuck or the motor actually went bad and needs replaced. Without that fan running you will get very little cooling.

What does the error code SY EF mean on an Electrolux French door refrigerator?

Hello Suzanne, thank you for your post!

I understand that your Electrolux refrigerator is displaying an error code of "SY EF". An "SY EF" code stands for an evaporator fan circuit failure. This could also be a miscommunication with your refrigerator and I would advise performing a reset on your refrigerator. You can reset it by disconnecting the power plug from the outlet for roughly ten minutes. If that does not help correct your issue you may need to replace your main control board or a wiring harness. For proper disassembly and repair of your refrigerator I would recommend having a professional technician for proper diagnosis and repair. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

My Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator showing HI temp.and with code5Y and EF, what does it mean?

An EF code is indicative of an Evaporator Fan Circuit Failure. Can it be stopped by ice or frost? Absolutely. Press the freezer up button and the freezer down button simultaneously for 6-8 seconds and you will enter a test mode. Every time you press the fresh food button after entering the test you will advance to the next test. They are not in numerical order. Go to test 26 (The defrost circuit test) and it will show CL for closed or OP for open. If it shows OP you have a defrost issue. If CL there is no defrost problem. Next go to test 15 - keeping in mind they ( the tests are Not in numerical order). When you get to 15 press the main power on/off button. The 1st time you press it the display will show LO and the fan should be on low speed. The next time you press the power button it will show HI, and the fan should be on high. It is a twelve vdc fan motor wire colors red, yellow, brown, and blue. They originate at the j6a and j4a connectors. If the fan does not come on in the test the check will be made at the control. There should always be 12vdc between brown and red, and there should be 9 - 12 vdc between brown and yellow in the test. The blue wire is a tach wire and feeds info back to the lower control which is located behind the kick plate underneath the unit. EX factory service 22 years currently an instructor. What does the error code 5y EF mean on my Frigidaire refrigerator

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you are receiving an "SY EF" code on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS3R5EMB. The "SY EF" code stands for system error with the evaporator fan. This possibly means that there is something going on with your evaporator fan or it could possibly be a false error code. . I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully.

-Best Regards-

Hi daneilb101 - Typically error code SY EF indicates that the refrigerator has detected an evaporator fan circuit failure. Contact a professional to move forward accurately. The wiring between the main control board and evaporator fan will need to be check and diagnose. Depending on the diagnoses the main control board may need replacing.
