I can't find a diagram but I can tell you. The two out side are your hot and the center is nutral. If you are putting a four wire on, it just adds a ground to the three.

8 year old dryer. drum not spinning to tumble the clothes. checked and the belt is ok? What is the next thing to troubleshoot?

Hi,

Check that the motor is turning. If not turning, is it humming? If humming, then the problem is likely start winding or centrifugal switch failure. Try lubricating centrifugal switch if stuck. If that does not work, replace motor. Be sure to disconnect dryer before working on it. Centrifugal switch assembly is located in the motor frame on the shaft.

My whirlpool dryer start when you press the start button - but as soon as you stop pussing the start button the machine stop and does not continue on it self.

Hi,

This problem is most commonly due to the motor. The motor has an internal switch called a centrifugal switch that senses when the motor is up to speed.

The second cause could be the start relay (this is present on some but not all models), this is part of the start button you push and is less expensive than the motor, it can be checked with an ohm meter to determine which component is faulty.

If you can send me your model number I can pull up the wiring diagram to determine which type of start component is on your Whirlpool. The model number can be found on the tag just inside the door

Starts with asistance then shuts off.

A centrifugal switch selects the start winding, but the run winding is always selected, according to the wiring diagram.

So, it could be a bad centrifugal switch, or a bad motor. You can test the motor by measuring the resistance between the blue and white-orange wires (the run winding), and between the blue and violet wire (the start winding). Both values should be under 4 ohms.

To continue running, the motor run winding must be OK, the door switch must be closed, the belt switch must be closed, and the thermal fuse must be OK.

All this assumes the electronic controller is OK, but this is the stuff a handy homeowner can check before calling in the big Sears guns.
