Spray a little starter fluid down the carburator . It is starts then is is a fuel problem. Most likely a gummed up carburator. Remove and clean .

Instruction on how to start a stihl chainsaw model 014 AV

this is a picture of a 014
looks basic..older model .. no safety features

starting all depends on
carby idle hi /low set correctly
air filter clean
clean fuel....fuel /oil mix
good spark
new spark plug if required
chain oil in oilier section
correct chain tension on the cutting bar

being a two stroke
and the engine has good compression
crank casing seals are in good condition

never have your body in line with the chain
it could run off the bar at startup ..flick .onto your arm or face

choke on
trigger lock on
hold the handle and pull cord handle ..firmly
let the weight of the chainsaw start itself
let the chainsaw go downwards till motor splutters
choke off
trigger lock on
drop the chainsaw downwards a few more times
and it should start

other way is put foot in the foot plate of the handle
and start sequence is the same

if not something is out of adjustment or needs servicing

Stihl 038 super av starts hard, once started runs great till its warmed up then dies and wont start

check the seals on the crankshaft for a leak and the ignition module for a loss of spark as it warms up.

My stihl 031AV chainsaw bogs down when pulling trottle

Ive had numerous similar faults with both stihl and husqvarna saws. all turned out to be leaking fuel tank vents. Im not sure if this model has a vented tank or not but it might be worth checking. Sounds like a fuel/air issue.

I have a Stihl 028 Av super chainsaw it has been runing well but now I can't start it how do I check the spark on the ingnition

Just remove the spark plug, connect the wire, and lay the plug base on engine metal. Turn on the ignition and pull the starter. If nothing, first try a fresh plug gapped at 0.020". If still nothing, service on the ignition system is required. Suggest finding a Stihl service dealer if you don't have mechanical service skills. Hope this helps!

I have a stihl chainsaw that won't fire

DID YOU REMOVE THE PLUG AND CHECK THE SPARK AT THE GAP? IF YOU HAVE FIRE THERE THEN THE PROBLEM MUST BE A FUEL PROBLEM. ARE YOU USING A FRESH GAS MIXTURE? YOU CAN PUT A FEW DROPS OF MIXED GAS IN CYLINDER THEN RE-INSTALL PLUG TO SEE IF IT FIRES, IF IT DOES THEN YOUR NOT GETTING GAS FROM THE CARB.POSSIBLE STUCK DIAPHRAGM. GOOD LUCK!!!
