Question about Sony DVP-NS51P DVD Player

Open Question

Why is there no sound out of my Pal or NTSC movies on my dvd?

I have a sony DVPNSS1P dvd player and I havea samsung slim line new TV. Initially when I plugged the two I could hear and see NTSC dvds but got nothing out of my Pal DVDs. Now I moved the cables around the TV and managed to get both Pal and NTSC movies to show clearly (on component and not AV1 or AV2) but now no sound comes from either of them. Can you help?

Dear welcomejee, thank your for reaching out. I have one three line cable and at each end there are three plugs, one red, one yellow and one blue, I hooked one end of the three to the dvd player and one end to the tv player. There are lots of spots to plug in the samsung tv, three horizontal lines (for the three plugs) and one vertical line (for th three plugs). and one on the side (for the three plugs). When I had the three ends of the cable on one of the horizontal ones (AV1) it worked for NTSC with sound and picture, when I changed it to the vertical line, I got picture in both NTSC and Pal movies but no sound. Now there is no sound for DVD only my TV has sound. When I turn all back to what it was, i now lost both the image and the sound of the NTSC. What is there to do?

Ok, will go out and try to get the red white cable. I dont have that. All I know is that I was able to see and hear NTSC dvds before with just the three cables and was unable to hear or see the PAL. Now I can see both but hear none. I will try what you say. Thanks

Below is an image of rear of dvd player connections.
If you hook component video (3 wires) also need to hook audio (2 wires) with TV, so total 5 wires.

If you hook Yellow video cable then hook 2 audio cable with TV so total 3 wires.

TV model is incorrect so can't see/ guide its rear panel.

Hook audio cable red-white for audio.
3 Component cable is just for video signal and audio requires 2 more cable (red-white) in same input.

SOURCE: how to unlock it to play either NTSC/PAL

Here is the sequence to unlock your DV Player. Clearly this needs to be done exactly to access the secret menu. So, you may want to copy and paste this info into a word program and then print it.

- Begin -
1. Turn off NS55P, leave TV on.
2. Using the original remote supplied with the NS55P, press these buttons in order: DISPLAY, TOP MENU, CLEAR, POWER.
3. NS55P will turn on, displaying the secret menu on the tv screen.
4. Select 2: Drive Manual Operation, then 4: Tray Aging Mode.
5. The screen then shows two input lines: Input Count and Current Count. Use the code 00030 on the first line. Pressing zero first will take you back to the original menu, so instead of trying to type 0-0-0-3-0, try something like 1-0-0-0-3-0 so the 1 in the front disappears after the last zero is entered.
6. Press ENTER on the remote. Disk tray will then open and close automatically 30 times. Let it do this until it finishes.
7. Repeat steps 4-6, but instead of using 00030 in the Input Count, use 00000. Press ENTER, and the NS55P is now capable of reading Region 2 dvds.

- End -

SOURCE: Can't switch from AV2 to AV1 with Samsung DVD-VR375 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo

To be able to select AV1, you have to first go into the setup menu and set the control set top box setting to OFF. I think you go to the menu >> setup >> features >> set top box control >> select OFF. Note that this has the side effect of erasing any previously stored timer settings.

How to turn a sony bdp-s790 dvd multi region

Buy two players. One from each region.
If you ave an NTSC TV only, you will also need a PAL to NTSC converter, if you want to play UK PAL DVD`s on US or Asian TV`s. But I think all Euro/UK TV`s are all both color signals (PAL & NTSC).

Will the dvp 311ok play ntsc dvd i am in australia and i am reg 4

As long as the NTSC DVDs are not region coded, and your TV is multi-standard (able to receive NTSC as well as PAL signals via A/V inputs or similar connections), the player should play NTSC just fine through it

I assume this is a PHILIPS player? If so, most PHILIPS DVD players support NTSC playback on PAL TV.

You are correct, Australia is region 4 for DVD standard. The only restriction would be region codes.

I bought pioneer muti system dvd

Check your DVD player's color system, most multi system dvd player has to be set(PAL or NTSC) manually, NTSC for American standard. Look for this button could be a mechanical switch at the back or at the menu. Some machine need to reboot after setting. Hope this helps

Hi,

Initially, pls check if your portable DVD has an NTSC/PAL selector switch, option or feature. If yes, try selecting the other. Should this not be corrective, pls post the exact brand, model and your general location/region.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Only black and white

If you are playing different region dvds, they can be of different color formats also
(US = NTSC, Europe = PAL). If your television is not multi-format then non-compatible
DVDs will play black and white. The solution is to purchase a mutli-format TV (accepts
both PAL and NTSC formats)

Color to black and white and back again

Since you're using a composite cable (yellow RCA) that carries both luma (brightness) and chroma (color) information, it's not the cable that is the problem.

That means it's either the DVD player itself, or the TV. If you have another video device (VCR, etc) that you can connect to the TV, try that. If the other device also goes from color to black and white, then it's your TV. Otherwise the problem is your DVD player.

Since your TV only has mono audio (white RCA, but no red) I would recommend getting a new TV if the TV is to blame.
