You can't simply upgrade. You will need a osX CD or DVD to install it

How to Get Your Lexmark X7100 Series Printer to Work with Leopard

If you are reading this, then you either obtained a Lexmark x7170 printer which does not seem to work with your Leopard OS or you upgraded to Leopard only to suffer numerous printing issues.

Don't toss your printer into the trash . . . it is possible to make your printer work with OSX Leopard and the following steps will help you achieve this.

The first thing you need to know is DO NOT use the drivers on the Lexmark CD or the ones you download from Lexmark's Web site. Instead, use the drivers that come on the Leopard DVD.

If you upgraded from 10.4, do the following first 4 steps in order to clean up the old driver first before installing the new one. (If you have a clean install, skip steps 2, 3, and 4).

1. Unplug the USB printer cable from your mac.
2. On the System Peferences menu, remove the printer queue clicking the "-" button on the Printes & Faxes dialog
3. Delete the Lexmark folder found in /Library/Printers (get rid of both the contents and folder itself)
4. Delete the file LexmarkUSBMerge.kext in /System/Library/Extensions

5. Insert the Leopard Installer DVD and click Optional Installs

6. Click Optional Install.mpkg

7. Go through the installation process. On the installation type, select
Printer Drivers and click Lexmark Printer Drivers. Click continue and
complete the installation process.

8. Reboot the system

9. Plug back the USB cable

10. Add the printer queue back (if not automatcially)

If the above procedure did not work for you, start over from the beginning but make sure to run a complete search and remove all instances of the
LexmarkUSBMerge.kext file. The procedures above should restore printing back for your Lexmark.

Now I upgraded my mac pro desktop to 10.6.8 and had to put in a new viedo card. Now I can not play my farmville on facebook. I loads and then the screen is blank and in the center it says plug-in...

The problem is flash is not supported on 10.6 or older, you must upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 if your Mac meets the 10.8 requirements. 10.7 and .8 both support flash and you should be able to reinstall flash from Adobe's website and be good to play your games again. I hope that helps you.

Upgrade my macbook

You can usually add RAM and a larger hard drive. If you are looking to upgrade your OS, then we'll need to know what model you have.

Apple G5 - PCI-X slots

PCI-X is powerful expansion port. The purpose of the slots on your motherboard is for you to be able to install a component that doesn't already exist hardwired on your motherboard. The most common use is for high speed internet connections called a network or ethernet card (the fat phone cord type of connection, also called cat-5).

PCI-X slots can take both PCI-X and certain types of PCI cards. The processing power potential of the slot is only fully used in certain situations and with the correct components.

SUMMARY:
PCI-X is for you to add a component to your computer, most likely a high speed internet card. You should use the full slot by purchasing a PCI-X compliant Ethernet card. This gives you the potential to transfer data at super high speed

I have an apple G5 single core

It sounds like you're asking to see if you can add a "core" to your G5. If so, that's not a possibility. Dual core is nice but the G5 is still a powerful machine. If you've maxed out your ram and running a good graphics card and you're still having problems running programs then you should consider an upgrade to a dual core/quad core machine.

Emac ethernet

An update would not prevent the machine from accessing a server, unless other changes in the machine configuration was made. If you are running Tiger (10.4) go tot he apple on the top left, 4 lines down is SYSTEM PREFERENCES. Under INTERNET & NETWORK, you want to select NETWORK. Location should be AUTOMATIC and SHOW should be NETWORK STATUS. From there you should see all the connections in the list below. Next to BUILT IN ETHERNET you should see a color dot either red green or yellow. If the dot is red but there is a cable there, then the cable has gone bad. If the dot is yellow and the cable is in the port, then your computer detects an acgtive signal but your configuration is incorrect, like your ip address is being used by another machine, If the dot is green, then your machine recognizes a stable and active signal. YOu may need to just reset your tcp/ip settings. There are a few more options like unplugging you router for a few seconds, or puling out the ethernet cable from the computer and re-inserting it.

Hope this help
