Question about Televison & Video

Audio, but no picture

The capacitor (C07) on the power supply is charred, so I do not know the value of the cap. Any help with the value would be appreciated. I would like to replace the capacitor first before spending $120 on a new power supply. Thank you for your help and have a great day.

Hmm, interesting. Yet, I can turn on the TV and see a very faint image on the screen with the flashlight technique and monitor the function keys in action. So your advice is that the LCD screen had blown the capacitor, Thanks.

Solution Proven... There are two power supply/inverter boards that are available for the 26 inch Insignia LCD DVD combo television. Notice that if you order the replacement board from Best Buy Part Search (no picture of board available), the specific board listed is the ES7872 part number in which the physical size is 4.75 inches by 11.75 inches. This part number is incorrect if the board size that you need is 4.3875 inches by 8.125 inches. The correct number is ES7817. I replaced this board, remembering to transfer the jumper connector for the incoming power line and the picture is back in business. I hope this helps someone who maybe looking for assistance with their TV problem.

What does the capacitor look like

The common failure capacitors are called electrolytic caps and the ones of main failure are on the power supply board---note that they are soldered in and each has a specific value and working voltage.'

here is what a bad one looks like for mild to extreme:

Vizio 19 inch no picture no sound

That capacitor could possibly be the cause. On some sets, the 12V supplies both the video and audio circuits. I would recommend replacing the cap and checking power supply outputs especially the 12vdc supply.

My I O DATA ftv lcd television have a sound but the picture or display will not appear?

Check the power supply for buldging capacitors that are going bad especially in the inverter supply voltage, replace any caps found to be bad with same value as orginal capcitor, but make the voltage rating for each cap higher.

Dots in picture (red, pink, etc.). Will go away after power cycling the set. please help.

is this a Samsung LN or LNT model?
if so there are two or three bad capacitors in the power supply...all of them located in upper right hand corner of the board between the heatsink up there and the wiring harness that jumps over to the main board. Look for the capacitors that have their tops buldged up.
Change them with same value
1000uf 10v or
2200uf 16v
or however they are marked (different size screen used different value caps)

Power will not stay on , on my magnavox tv model 32mf337b/27 unplugged like user manual suggested but didnt work even after 30 hrs saw on a few people have had same proble with this model mine...

Magnavox has issues with puffed caps on the power supply. This sounds like its a 32 inch lcd tv. I tried searching for a service manual for this and can't find one. If it is an lcd you need to look at the capacitors on the power supply. If they are puffed up, you will need to replace them with equal or slightly larger valued capacitors. The capacitor values are mfd and voltage printed on the capacitors themselves. You will need a soldering iron to replace them. Lay the tv, if it is an lcd, on a flat surface cushioned by a blanket. Make sure the surface is large enough to support the tv frame, as you don't want to cause damage to the panel. remove the back of the tv. There are numerous screws, and once the back is off, check the power supply pcb for puffed caps. This is the board with the power cord attached. I know in magnavox tv there is a cage covering the power supply, so remove any connectors because you will have to flip the cage housing the power supply to get to the caps. If you feel confident, give it a try. Let me know how it goes

Hi, Need users manual for Toshiba 37XV505, picture gone tv only 4 months old, Help

A user manual will do you no good for a tv that has lost its picture. You will need a service manual. Your tv sounds like it's a 37 inch lcd or plasma tv. The cause could possibly be puffed capacitors on the power supply. If you feel confident, you could check the power supply pcb and visually look at all the caps on it to see if they are puffed.
To do this you need to lay the tv face down on a cushioned surface large enough to support the tv by the frame. This is to prevent any damage to the panel. Then remove all the screws securing the back of the tv to the frame. Look at the power supply pcb, it is the board with the power cord attached to it, for puffy caps. If they are puffed they need to be replaced. Replace with capacitors of equal or slightly greater values. The values are marked on the caps themselves in mfd and voltage.
If they look good, take a multimeter and test the dc voltage outputs, usually marked on the power supply near connectors with different colored wires. There should be three of them together. Take the black lead of your multimeter and connect it to chassis ground, and the red lead use to check the voltages.

I have a Sceptre X9G-Naga II and two ceramic capacitors that are in the power supply are fried. The capacitors are C11 and C12. Anybody knows the value of these capacitors and where Can i get them?

I think they are MOVs in the primary AC side. Can you post the pictures, or send them to me at Most MOV are blue in color, ceramic cap is usually orange/yelllowish color.

When we activate the power, the TV sits there and clicks for over 10 minutes before the picture turns on. No video, no audio, just clicks. We think we have everything connected properly.

You probably have weak capacitors in the power supply module. It`s a common problem in those sets nowaday. If you remove the back cover and follow the power connector it`ll take you to it, its all plugins so you can remove and replace the caps yourself or take it to a shop. the caps have cylindrical shape with values like 330mfd/35v on it and the bad ones often have a rounded top. good luck
