Hi,kelly008
what you need is what is called a W.E.P.key.you should have this on the bottom of the wireless router.the thing what plugs into the phone line.it must be typed in exactly the same.
best of luck

    hi kelly008,

when you use windows to search for a wireless connection.it comes up with a list of avaliable connections.if the one you try to connect to says you need a key or password to connect.then as i said before you will need to get the key.if it is an unsecure network(low or no security)schools hospitals uni council.then you should be able to connect.just thought are you in a wifi area?if so try taking laptop outside to connect.if not working go to control panel-system-tab hardware-click device manager see if there is any yellow question marks.if yes let me know what

  • max-fires Jan 26, 2009

    hi again,

1..when you search for avaliable connections do you get a list come up?

2..if you have a friend with wireless ask them if you can connect to them.if they say yes take your laptop round search for avaliable connections. select theirs when asked enter the w.e.p.key they give you.you should then be connected.

3..i think before you was connected to an unsecure connection this has been removed/made secure

4..if the above does not work i will need the make and model of your laptop to help you further.

    best of luck

    hi again,

ok you will be glad to know your laptop is fine.you have 3 choices 1st ask a friend if you can connect through them.the other is to get a wireless set up yourself.orange,bt whoever.there is one other but it is expensive.if you have a mobile you can connect through that(if its a newish 1).the setup takes a while and its fairly slow.if you have a phone line you can connect through a modem again you will need orange bt etc to do this.

hope this has solved the problem

    max-fires

p.s you could always wait till someone is daft enough to leave an unsecured network again.

ok well if you lost your security code then the only way you can connect to your wireless connections again is to have the correct credentials correct Passwords .in your case you lost your Password the only options you have is to reset your router and setup new Password for your wireless . ok lets reset the wireless router now . on the back of your router their is a tiny hole says Reset use needle or a pen to press the button for 40 seconds and release turn off your wireless from the plug and turn it on again . now connect to your wireless and you will not need password to connect Internet.

if you need help with setting up password on your router then email me zana_adil86@hotmail.com

Win xp desktop connected to wrt54gs router wants laptop running win 7 to connect wirelessly

We need to know the wireless settings on your router before configuring the laptop.

To check the wireless settings, access the setup page of the router by using the desktop's internet browser. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1.

Default login is: leave the username blank, then the password is admin.

Once you are in the setup page, go to the Wireless tab.

Take note of the wireless network name (SSID).

Then go to the Wireless Security tab. Take note of the wireless security settings and the network key (if wireless security is enabled).

On your laptop, in the lower right corner of your screen you will see an icon that looks like this moz-screenshot-1.jpgc147bd5.png.

Click the icon and you will see a list of available networks.

Select the SSID of your router then click connect.

If the wireless security is enabled, it will ask for the security key. Type the wireless network key, then click ok.

It will then connect wirelessly.

Good luck!

Hi,
what is the wireless status in system tray? is it local or local and internet.
1. first check if it works fine with wire conection or not.
2.if it fine with cable then issue is with wireless. probably issue with Wireless security key.
3. go to available wireless networks and select the net work, if it is asking for wireless key please enter that. if you donot remember that perform router reset.that takes care of it.

No network

The Wireless Security of the router doesn't match your laptop's wireless settings. Make sure you configure the wireless security password correctly on the laptop. If you don't know your wireless password, try these steps:

-Connect your laptop hard wired to the router.
-Open Internet Explorer and on the Address Bard type http://192.168.1.1 press enter.
-It will prompt you for username and password. By default, there's no username and on the password type admin and hit OK. If admin didn't work, type your own password for the router.
-When you get to the Setup page, click on Wireless Tab, then click the sub-tab Wireless Security.
-Look for Security Mode. If Security Mode is WPA-Personal, the Passphrase is the wireless security key that you need to enter on the laptop's wireless settings. If the Security Mode is WEP, the WEP Key 1 is your wireless security key. Connect to the wireless network and type it in. That should solve your wireless connection problem.

Cannot get wireless connection through router

Hi MistiShay,

You did mention that it was working fine for several weeks suddenly your wireless computers stopped functioning and your getting a message that the security key in incorrect. This only means that its either your entering the wrong encryption key or someone changed the previous security key to something else. By the way what type of wireless security did you configured on the router initially was it WEP or WPA, if its WEP(64 or 128 bit) and your using a bulit-in wireless adapter on your laptop you need the default WEP key because the passphrase only works with a Netgear WLAN Utility.

Know if your having difficulties accessing the setup page of the router you may need to check on your browser settings, turn off the pop up blocker and firewall temporarily, also try another computer. Now if all fails you may need to press that reset button on your router and set it up again.

Internect connecting

If the laptop was connecting wirelessly before and you didn't change the wireless security key on the router during your troubleshooting steps with the ISP then it should just reconnect. If it doesn't reconnect you should probably delete the wireless profile that's saved and try connecting again. When you delete the wireless profile you will have to enter the security key again. Make sure you have this information handy.

If you are uncertain what the wireless security key is use your desktop that is physically connected to the router to log into the router and reset the security key.

To log onto the router you need to know the routers IP Address. You can obtain that information through the following:

START MENU
RUN
Type CMD
Click OK
Type IPCONFIG
Hit Enter
Look for the default gateway. The default gateway is the IP Address of the router. By default the IP is 192.168.1.1.

Type whatever IP Address you discovered into the address bar of your web browser (Internet Explorer for most) and hit enter.

You will be prompted for a login. If you didn't change the default login information to the router it should be a blank username and the word: admin - as the password.

Navigate to the wireless settings and reset the security key.

From your laptop key in the new network key.

Hope this helps.

Validating identity

it is just that the network key which is stored in the computer is not working so the 1st thing u need to do is verify the network key for that go to 192.168.0.1 from internet explorer enter the user id & password of ur dlink ( default id: admin password : admin) the go to wireless check the WEP or security key which is present their. reenter that key the computer & try to connect.

If it didn't work then go to control panel >> system >> hardware>> device manager

look for the network adepter & unintall the wireless network card
restart the computer
once restart it will automatically reintall the wireless card driver
then go to control panel>>Network Connection
right click on wireless network connection
select view wireless network connect
select ur network name & connect it will ask for the key provide the key & once u do that it will get connected & work fine

if in case u have the same problem replay back & i help u out with it & also provide all the details like which windows & network card etc

I can tell that your network topology is not the most complicated ever.So u ve got 3 terminals,1 desktop pc and 2 laptop.Simple, reset your zyxel(from the button on the back) and reconfigure the Local area interface connection(ip & subnet mask for the zyxel),reconfigure your internet connection,(WAN zyxel interface) in case the zyxel is your Internet gateway too.Third, make sure NAT & Firewall are up and running(usually are by default) Finally, reconfigure the WiFi interface with the correct SSID name & WEP key or whatever security you prefer.Write down the security pass for your wireless and you are done.Good Luck.
