Try going to control panel, then device manager, and try right clicking and updating all drivers that have to do with graphics or your screen.
If this doesn't do the trick then try finding the display drivers manually.
Is it flickering, or just having promblem adjusting the brightness? If is is flickering, it could be a loose wiring connection. If it is not adjusting brightness, check via using your FN keys, then try clicking the battery icon in your taskbar and adjust brightness through it. If nothing happens, it could be your screen inverter.
The setting you need to change there is your power settings. The laptop dims the the display to save power when its unplugged. You will have to go into change power options from diplay settings i think.
Thats because, screen or inverter was from different laptop or not compatible. For Dell laptops you have to buy screens with inverter together by dell part number. You should be happy if it's bright enough. There is nothing else to do or try different screen or inverter.
Ok on your keyboard there should be some way to adjust the brightness just plug in the laptop and adjust it to what you want then unplug the laptop and adjust it to what you want and it should keep that setting. if that does not work you can check the bios settings some laptop bios' have a brightness option.
Laptops are made to be portable, but they don't seem to be made to use outdoors. I have two laptops and can't use either outside unless it's dark. The problem is that the back light for the screen isn't strong enough, and the screens, mat or glossy, are made to be used inside. Outside the glossy reflects everything, and the mat actually attracts more light to it, making it impossible to see anything on the screen. There are a few companies that make laptops with outdoor screens, but they're very expensive machines, ie... Panasonic Toughbook.
