How to bleed brakes

Bleeding brakes is pretty much the same across all vehicles. However, are you sure that there's air in the system and not a faulty brake master cylinder? The brake master cylinder has rubberised 'O' seals inside which, if worn, can cause a spongy pedal that has to be pumped before the brakes feel hard.

To bleed the brakes you need a length of plastic tube to fit onto the brake bleed nipple on the brake calliper. You can buy a brake bleeding kit which incorporates a non-return valve. The valve allows brake fluid to be pumped through it but prevents air from being drawn back up the tube into the brake system.

You can use ordinary plastic tube, but one end should be placed in a container of brake fluid to prevent air being drawn back in.

1. Locate the bleed nipple. Usually you start at the wheel nearest to the brake master cylinder (and then bleed each wheel in turn working your way to the furthest wheel from the car -if necessary).

2. Before you begin:Put a ring spanner onto the bleed nipple. Put a finger over the end of the bleed nipple to prevent air from entering via the nipple and 'rock' the spanner to make sure that the nipple will actually loosen. It is quite common for brake bleed nipples to seize then shear when turned with a spanner(wrench..). Don't use an open-ended spanner (wrench) otherwise the chances are you will 'round off' the bleed nipple.

3. Put the ring spanner on the bleed nipple and fit the bleed tube.

Get somebody to turn on the engine and slowly - slowly - depress the brake pedal. Undo the nipple slightly and brake fluid (maybe with air bubbles in it) should be visible in the tube.

get your helper to pump the brake pedal 3-4 times and keep the pedal depressed. Tighten the brake nipple.

4. Then repeat for each calliper if necessary.

5. Many cars have a split circuit brake system. That is, the front offside wheel is on the same system as the rear nearside wheel. The front nearside wheel is on the same line as the rear offside.

Here, you would bleed the front brake first and then the diagonally opposite rear wheel.

A bleed nipple. The open end is where the tube fits. Usually, you only need undo a bleed nipple approximately one turn. Use a ring spanner, not an open ended spanner.

My kodak carousel auto focus 760 carousel does not move but the projector makes a noise when I press the buttons how can I get it to move

Your Carousel 760 Slide Projector is about 45 years old. One of the problems I have seen as Carousel Slide Projectors age is that the plastic parts in the projector get brittle and break. Given your description of the observed condition is that probably either the gear on the focus motor shaft or the gear it interfaces with (or both) that is broken. Given the age of the machine, parts will be tough to locate. Try: www.micro-tools.com
for the best chance to locate those parts. Good Luck !! Jim

Repalced black cartridge and the printer refuses to rotate to nect cartridge and displays "Incorrect yellow" message

Its actually simple but difficult to explain. I'll try my best.
1. open the top cover
2.you will see the two plastic hinges that hold the top cover.
3. look at the right one, you will see that it gets inside the unit, just below that plastic hinge (inside) there is a white or gray plastic part with an square hole (in rare cases might be black)
4. Introduce a thing object (an open paper clip its perfect) DO NOT FORCE THAT PART TOO MUCH AS IT CAN BREAK

This steps will unlock the carousel and will move free. You can manually rotate it and take everything out. Finally take the clip out and the carousel will lock again. Try to insert the toner as you normaly do.

We have a laserjet 2840. When I added the new black toner cartridge and it was cycling the machine stopped in cleaning mode and now it seems like the catridges are jammed. It just says incorrect yellow but...

Need to know the order in which to bleed the brakes as i have to replace the master cylinder and will be doing it at home!

Start from the nearest caliper to the master cylinder. If it is left hand drive, start from left-front then right-front then left rear then right-rear and vice versa for right hand drive. A tip I learned from a friend is to use a small clear plastic bottle and rubber tubing. Poke a hole through the bottle cap and insert the tube all the way to the bottom. Fix the other end of the tube to the bleed nipple/nozzle and bleed away. I find this to be the most efficient way to bleed brakes without worrying about spilling brake fluid on your garage floor and you won't waste fluid since you can reuse the fluid in the bottle.

Plastic nipple is stripped and need to know if it can be replaced

The plastic nipple is part of the washer's fill valve. The whole valve needs to be replaced (but it's not a very expensive part). You don't remove the back of the machine to get at it. The whole procedure is shown in good detail here:

The replacement part is available at appliance parts stores.

Do you need to sterilize the evenflo glassbottles after every use or just before the first use. also are the bottles breakable if thrown

All glass bottles should be sterilized after every use. If you do not sterilize a bottle after you use it, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. Sterilizing bottles after each use can be a pain. I suggest investing in playtex plastic bottles with pre-sterilized drop-in liners. These lines are are cheap; approximately $10 for a 100 of them. You still have to sterilize the nipples after each use but it is a lot less work.

I am sure that if you throw any glass bottle hard enough it will break.

Printing on right side only

ok, for those who are having troubles releasing the clutch.
when i fixed my printer, i didnt even know there was such a release.

i fixed it in an other way (not for the faint hearted)
open the printer, remove all cartridges and photoconducter unit.

when misalligned, you will notice the guides where the toner cartiridges slide into place, left and right, are shifted.
the part of the printer body guides misalign with the carousel guides.

basically, what you need is a big screwdriver.
push the big screwdriver on the right side between the carousel and the body.
the black plastic ferriswheel will bend inwards, enough to go free from the little white driving gear wheel.
now move the right ferris wheel 1 notch into position.
ready. reinstall toners etc.

be carefull not to break it.
it does work, done it on 3 machines now.

the only reason why this happens which i could find,
is that there was a toner cartridge that is stuck.
feel if you can rotate the white cartridge gear by hand.
if not, that is your problem.

possible lesson:
do not over fill your cartridge.
it is perfectly possible to refill, done that many times with these machines, but dont overfill.
ot maybe it is moist in the toner or something.
these cartridges dont have eternal life

good luck, dj

Fatal Error 17H - toner cartridges will not advance

Open the front door and remove the toner bottle.

Look near the colour toner carts and you will see a small round hole. Jam a screwdriver in that hole and the carousel will rotate freely. Move the carousel round and remove each toner one at a time.
