We tried to leave it unplugged for several hours, 8+, but when we plugged it back in the timer light was still on. Still is...any other suggestions?

  • christineewo Jan 27, 2009

It's now been a few days with the TV left unpluged. I plugged it in this morning to see if the prior Expert advice worked but the timer light is still on. We have tried pressing the on/off switch and no reponse...please advise....

In your case, one of the following has happened...

1. The Sleep Lock has been activated on your TV.
Without the remote, it cannot be de-activated.

2. The power supply has failed.

3. An IC has been damaged.

You can look for a used remote on the internet on various sites like eBay.

However professional service is required for all 3 of these events. Convergence, and service mode can only be controlled with the remote.

To reset your TV, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, power strip, etc. Keep your TV unplugged for about 5 minutes. Then, plug the TV back in, turn the TV on, and see if the problem is fixed. If the problem remains, then please contact RCA Customer Support using the Support

The easiest way to make TVGOS search for a new host
channel is to change the ZIP code in setup. This causes TVGOS to search for a
host channel with data for the new ZIP. If you like, you can change the ZIP code
to something arbitrary, turn the TV off, turn the TV back on, then set the ZIP
code back to your home ZIP.

Alternately, you can issue a "reset" command to TV Guide
On Screen by entering the Guide, selecting the "Setup" tab, pressing "down"
once, then entering "653274147" on your remote. If you entered the code
correctly, the screen will blank momentarily and the guide's internal settings
will be wiped. Program listings and channel lineups are preserved, but the clock
will not be reset until TVGOS finds a host station for your ZIP code. Unplugging
or hard-resetting your TV may have the same effect.

I think its some kind of power supply problem that TV does not power up.
Timer option can not last so long and can be canceled by pressing power / standby switch any time.

The only way to do a reset in to leave UNPLUGGED for at LEAST 4 hours. That is the only way to reset it. If the reset doesn't fix the problem then it is due to faulty power supply or a blown fuse that you can find by removing the back of the tv

on SOME tv's, you can press and hold the volume bottons on the tv set itself to fix this problem.

But the tv repair man said it would be the convergence modules

sorry, I meant holding the up and down buttons at the same time for 10 seconds.

The only other thing u could try is to press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. This resets some tv's as well.

If you have tried both the reset suggestions I have given you and they haven't worked, I would either have the power supply replaced like I mentioned before

If you unplugged it for 4 hours, tried to press and hold power button for 10 seconds, and tried to hold up and down volume buttons at the same time for 10 seconds, and the tv didn't respond to the reset, THAN YOUR PROBLEM IS You will have to replace all ofthe capacitors on the power supply.
Parts express and Centerpointe Electronics sells the Capacitors you
will need. Cost of fix $30 and an afternoon of soldering.

Timer is not the problem---the tick ticking sound is the shutdown circuit in the set that has been triggered by a short somewhere likely in the high voltage area or the convergence circuit---shop repair---says Akai but I suspect set was made by Samsung who owned that name at one time.

I have a 56'' AKAI PT5492 projection screen i turn it on and have green bowed lines on top of screen

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

To get fixed either call in a local TV repair company or goto sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com to get a repair kit with instructions.

If you're using a DVD player or other component using the Component cable hookup, try unplugging that from the mix, unplug the power cord for the TV from the wall and wait 15 seconds and plug it back in, then power the TV back on. Mine used to do this and I gave up on the component cable option and went back to composite (RCA).

NOW AS TO THE POWER SUPPLY--- ALL POWER TO THE HOUSE IS IN A.C. (ALTERNATING CURRENT ) THE POWER SUPPLY CHANGES THIS TO D.C. ( DIRECT CURRENT ) WHICH IS WHAT ALL OF THE STUFF IN YOUR HOME RUNS ON THIS PART CAN SOMETIMES BE A LITTLE HARDER TO GET BUT GO WITH THE ABOVE LISTED SITES OR DO A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR IT
