Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a old Hotpoint washer(came with house) and 3 days ago the cold water side just ran to the tub and overflowed for like 7 hours(at work). The washer had worked fine before then. The hot water side was still on afyer I cut the cold off from the house and it did not run in tub but the cold would just keep running unless turned off at house faucet. So is the valve bad that the water lines screw into?

Yes the valve will have to be replaced. This is a common problem as machines get older.

Water won't stop coming in

There is a small clear hose that connects to the side of the tub near the bottom, the other end of the hose connects to a switch in the console behind the knob for the load size, this tube either came off while you were working on it or it got full of water. If it came off simply put back on but do so with the tub empty of water, this is very important!!

If the tube was filled with water, drain the tub and blow through the tube and reconnect.

Anyone anygood troubleshooting a Whirlpool Washer?

Thats a problem. Did you have the washer laid on it's side when moving? Timer switch would be first look. Hot water not working, but cold is? Mmmm.. Water inlet is pretty simple no real mechanical parts except intake valve for each inlet. Valve could be plugged or stuck closed on hot intake. Temp switch could be bad and that would cause the water intake to shut.I guess, but not usually a problem unless old machine. Make sure the fuse in control panel is intact. Underside of washer is a relay switch called wigwag. If it is bad nothing will cycle, easy fix 10 minutes and $15 in most cases. But check out before jumping to solve. All ways check cheapest parts first. Lid switch would also cause the no start and spin cycle problems.

yes this is more than likely a leaking inlet valve, to confirm turn of water at wall valves

Maytag Washer (approx. 7 years old) has slow stream when filling

Follow the two inlet hoses from the back of your machine. They should each end at a valve (one for hot and one for cold). Make sure that these valves are all the way counter-clockwise and that the hoses are not kinked or pinched.

Hotpoint washer will not stop filing with water

It would appear you have a faulty water inlet valve.
Try turning the water off to the washer. if it stops filling, then that is your problem
Replace valve or valves as required.

Another flood. GE washer

The water sound is normal. There is a solution in the top of inner tub for balance. Is it overflowing...as in not stopping the fill cycle? If so check to make sure small hose is still attached to outer tu at bottom left front. This dome that it connects to can become filled with scum and causes the unit to not know that it's full. This causes flooding. You can try removing hose and cleaning out with thin wire. Sometime only fix is to replace outer tub. Again, this is only if overflowing!!
Another possibility is a bad break allowing outer tub to spin in agitation. This throws water up over sides of tub. Monitor unit when agitating to see if outer tub picks up speed and starts to spin. It is normal for it to index.
