Why my speaker does not have any sound when i speak using my laptop mic?

The sound does not come out directly when i speak, but it works well for recording. Compaq CQ40-506TU Window Vista Ultimate SP 2 IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

Unless I'm very wrong, the microphone only works as an input into the computer, so that the computer may process sound in some certain fashion and make a recording, like an MP3, or some such.. And then, AFTER that is created, you may play it back through your computer speakers.

    To my knowledge, you can't use a computer for an "amplifying device", which is what I'm gathering you want to use it for. You have to record, convert and play back.. BUT, I don't pretend to know everything.. :-)

The sound wont work at the same time with picture


You may be using a laptop with a mic as well as having a webcam with a mic.
Try setting the webcam mic as default.
Vista
TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray or from Control Panel
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
To set required (webcam) mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click 'OK'
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)

Sound won't work

How do i install sound on a longitech webcam?


The webcam mic uses your computer sound system all you can do is to configure your mic to the program you wish to chat in.

Typical audio set up

Laptop with mic x webcam with mic x Vista x Yahoo Messenger
If you have an earlier OS, you may have to access your hardware from the Control Panel.

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

The sound is not working on my webcam, i have made sure that the driver is installed and everything, and that it is enable in the properties of the volume control panel.


Try setting up your audio from the beginning - I dont know your computer set up ( desk top with add-on speakers or laptop with built in speakers or your OS ) So I will give you a general example using :-
Laptop with built in mic x webcam with built in mic x Vista OS x Yahoo Messenger

If you have an earlier OS, you may have to access some of your hardware ( speakers and mic ) from the Control Panel.

I lost sound on messenger, any remedies? Will a uninstall and reinstall work?


cheak the sound driver in your pc if its works then its problem of your messenger then u can remove your messenger and reinstall it if u have lost your sound from pc then put motherboard driver cd install your sound driver

The microphone doesn't work. it couldn't pick up any sound. tried adjusting all the sound setting but still it doesn't work.

I've used Yahoo as an example, but the principle is the same for any chat program, but less complicated.
Skype and WLM go to 'Tools' on the menu and look for 'Audio set up'

I used installation disc and all we get is good video but no sound. The Control Panel sounds are not muted


You do not say if the webcam has a built in mic, what the Operating System is on your Computer, if your computer is a laptop and what program you want to use the webcam in.
