Question about Sony Standard (CRT) Televisions

1 Answer

TV screen goes black but tv is on. But will stay on sometimes.

Turn TV on. Set input to and open AV input. leave there for 10 or so minutes. Then turn to an AV input with a DVD connected and it will often play for the entire DVD. But turn the TV on and set to a channel input and the screen will go black within just a few seconds but the tv power is still on. If you are on a tv channel and ithe screen goes black, you can select another channel and the picture returns on the channel slected but then again goes black after a few seconds. Sometimes after leaving it on, and set to an open AV input for a while you can then select the antenna input and watch the channel for sometime and then it will go black until you select another channel & the picture returns but will not necessarily stay on.

I have a 2000ish 32 inch trinitron Wega and i have had the EXACT same problems as you have, except mine was blacking out more and more frequently, but yes if u changes the channel or hit return onto the same channel you're watchin the picture wil come back, but not very long, about the longest it'll show a steady picture is 1/2 hr, but it's usualy going black within every 10-15 mins or so.

I took it to a Sony approved/recommened repair shop and aftet having a look i was told it would cost $200 cd including taxes to replace a 'vacuum tube' or something like that, i wish i could be more specific anout the part. I'm still considering whether or not to go through with the repair. I might just buy a working/used newer Tube Flascreen with HD for another couple hundred dollars. If there was a newer 2003+ 32 or 36" Sony that has a good track record I would love to hear suggestions. I don' trust flat panels, way too mny horror stories, and for every 1 i hear about there's probably 10-20 more.I'll give them another 5 years or so to get their acts together.

On the other had, if i do decide to get my 32" wega fixed i will post the results and the exact pt numbers of the pts used i the repair. Your problem is exactly the same as mine, to the letter. I'm a mechanic by trade, but i have a good feeling they're not going to give me correct pt # until i have payed them to fix it. Or else i'd order the part and install it myself.

Good Luck,
Aaron

If the screen is black but on, as opposed to black because it is off, check to see if your timer is set to turn the tv off.

Sony kv35s66: No picture, just sound and red blinking

This should be a quick fix. Try resoldering the vertical IC. This is a small flat IC attached to a heat sink with about 11 pins. It should be marked LA7837 or something similar. That should resolve the problem.

Keep us posted.

Av black and white

please don't take this as me doubting your intelligence, but are you sure your wires are good? sometimes they can become worn out inside of the protective rubber, and partially fail.
Also, how old is the TV? I just got one (for free so i can't complain) from a friend that will start in color on av and then turn to black and white because something inside of it went bad..

The most common problem (I have fixed lots) is the Vertical amplifier has developed a loose connection. It probably just needs resoldering. As things expand it makes and looses connection you picture goes in and out. The vertical chip is a large black chip that gets hot, over time it degrades the solder until a connection is damaged. Most newer sets have a protection circuit that senses the lack of height, and shuts down the picture tube to save it. When the picture dropped to a line on older TVs and left that way too long it would burn a line into the face of the picture tube. You then had to have the picture tube replaced along with the vertical amp. it's kinda like a screensaver for your TV.

Mitsubishi CS31305 TV turns on then goes to snow and then back on

snow basically is a symptom of weak signal.

as you say it becomes ok after 5 minutes or so there no question of any components gone wrong except loose or print intermittent

please check.

1  input weak like cable or antenna or loose wire from the source..

2  in tv antennae socket loose.

3  near tuner any thing loose or track loose.

4  cable wire might be old.

hope this will help.

Can't shut off closed caption

I have the JVC I Art 46" TV. The Close Caption was turn on accidentally by my grandson. After lots of searching for the original remote. I called JVC Customer Support. He told me to change the Close Caption settings to CC2 and T1. That fixed the CC without having the original remote.
