The Quick Start Guide has a Default Barcode. Scan that. Code 39 and 93 should be on by default. If not download the Reference Guide and there are barcodes in that manual that enable/disable all symbologies.
Code 93 is not enabled on default. Scan the Enable Code 93 barcode from Adobe page 190 of 342 from the LS2208 Product Reference Guide. You didn't say which scanner you have but most Motorola scanners use the same barcodes. If the scanner does not accept this barcode then look up the PRG for your scanner and find the barcode in that manual. You may also need to scan the Code 93 Any Length barcode from the next page if your barcode is less than four characters.
The barcode reader can only be used by any application developed. To read barcodes for a program like notepad, excel, etc.., then there is a program that sends the reading of the scanner into the keyboard buffer. You can also read barcodes with the camera.
The buttons are also programmable.
You can create a barcode in Code 39 that contains $M. Then scan the Enable Code 39 Full ASCII barcode from the Symbologies section of the LS4000 Series Product Reference Guide (Adobe page 93 of 182). If you are unable to create the barcode Knowledge Article ADC-00266 contains the $M barcode. You may run into problems with your application if it does not see a Control M as an Enter. If this is the case the article contains instructions for addressing this problem as well.
these scanners are user configurable, to prevent scanning of an inappropriate barcode, only the required barcode schema are enabled, if you look in your code book you will find that there is a page with listings and examples of the various different barcode schemes, in the section before that there should be a list of barcodes that allow you to program the device to use whichever barcode scheme you wish (as long as it is compatible with the scanner)
so you can enable the scanner to read 128, code 39 or EAN and also you can configure prefixes / suffixes depending on your software's requirements
