Have you check for Dust inside? Fans? Etc.? Try a little housekeeping and some Electronic Contact Cleaner spray and cans of Compressed Air. If it's clean, Check ALL the cables, Reseat ALL cables. Is it connected to a UPS? Post results.

    Thank you for your response.

I have completed the cleaning instructions. It's connected directly to the wall outlet.

I booted in safe mode to check the monitor graphic settings and the monitor screen flickered, froze and screen turned off and the computer turned off and back on but screen, mouse and keyboard are not

It sounds like a hardware fault but that's tough to diagnose from my desk. Bad Graphics, Memory, Bad PSU, Bad connections? try reseating the Memory. Sorry I can't be more precise, hardware faults can be tricky.

Thanks. I'll try that and post the results.

SOURCE: gateway 5228 wont boot no lights on keyboard

does it load the bios screen? Does it get to the windows load screens if it does go to the bios screen? Does the computer power on at all?

Sometimes what happens is the bios chip can be faulty or die and this will have to be replaced to fix the issue. If the computer is not powering on then it is more than likely a power supply issue.

(just in case, you might want to make sure that all of the adapters that come from the power supply are connected to the motherboard as well)

I have a gateway dx4200-09 and when I boot up the screen goes black a few seconds after we turn it on and can't do much without visual have to constantly turn on and off monitor for brief glimpses

Either the Monitor or Video Card is going bad. Since it comes back on by turning the monitor off and on, I suspect it's the monitor.

If you have another monitor, plug it in and see if it works. If so, the problem was the monitor.

This is a hard drive issue, remove hardware and reseat it back into place, sometimes this will work and run fine. But it is more than likely your hard drive will need to be replaced.

Computer and monitor come on fine the screen goes white with black or colored lines in it

im only having a guess but i think it could be your ram is corrupt its known for the screen to go white when theres ram problems try taking out one of the sticks of ram and see does that sort it if not put that one back in and take out the other one if you only have one stick of ram then i would suggest bringing it to a store to get fixed it might not be any of these but its worth a try...look up youtube to see how to remove ram and dont remove it with the computer turned on and dont put it back in with the pc on either make sure its off and touch something metal before opening the pc to discharge any static...hope this helps

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

Try the fix I've described in this link:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r4501608-when_windows_xp_start_primary_fix
if that doesn't work, try this next one:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r4501848-when_windows_xp_start_secondary_fix

You can also try to start the computer in safe mode and do a system restore back to when you know it was working. (Just a hint--try this first!!!!)

I have a gateway gx7022e windows xp computer. When i try to boot it up the white letters pop up then the screen goes to the gateway screen and freezes. Then my num lock comes on but my keyboard wont work....

At power on / power up, look for the key during the bootup (black screen with white text), that allows you to enter SETUP. If none designated such as F1, F2 F10 etc, then quickly click the delete button a few times and that may get you into setup. You may have to turn off the computer if you miss that window of time if it rfequires pressing the delete button a few times. Keep an eye out for the Enter Setup key though. To turn off the computer press and hold the power button 'till is shuts down and resart the process until you get to the setup screen in bios. In setup bios environment, look for set factory defaults and then save and restart. That may solve the issue of the lockup.
