Every day I have some dyslexic out fit take the place of my chosen Home & Search page. put it in Add-On Every day -sometimes twice a day.

It can be frustrating when a program changes your default search provider, especially if the provider is changed without your permission. But you can stop this from happening. When a program such as an add-on or toolbar suggests changing your default search provider, Internet Explorer displays a dialog box that lets you decide whether to keep or change your current default provider.
If you want Internet Explorer to keep your default search provider and not prompt you again, select the Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider check box in the dialog box that appears when a program suggests a change.
You can also do the same thing by following these steps:
  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Internet Explorer, and then, in the list of results, click Internet Explorer.
  2. Click the Tools button, and then click Manage Add-ons.
  3. In Manage Add-ons, under Add-on types, click Search Providers.
  4. Toward the bottom of the screen, select the Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider check box, and then click Close.

Hang up internet explorer not responding

If you use Internet Explorer you may experience issues where the browser freezes, hangs up and stops responding.

Although many things can cause the browser to stop responding, if the problem persists there are a few troubleshooting techniques that you can use to fix the problem.

Troubleshooting Internet Explorer may require you to perform a few steps or several, depending on the cause of the problem.

Click "Start," choose "All Programs" and click on the "Windows Update" option.

A new window will appear.

Click the "Check for updates" link on the left side of the window.

Windows will connect to the internet and search for updates for your system.

Click the "Install updates" button on the right side of the window.

Windows will automatically download and install any updates it finds.

Restart your computer, if prompted.

Delete Temporary Internet Files

Click "Start" and select "Control Panel."

Click the "Network and Internet" selection then click on "Internet Options."

The Internet Properties dialog box will appear.

Click the "Delete" button beneath the "Browsing history" section.

A new window will appear.

Place a check-mark next to "Temporary Internet files" and click "Delete."

Allow the computer to delete the temporary internet files then close the Internet Properties dialog box.

Remove Problematic Add Ons

Click "Start" and enter "Internet Explorer" into the Windows search bar.

Click on "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)" when it appears in the list.

Internet Explorer will launch with no add-ons running.

Click "Tools" on the right side of the browser and select "Manage Add ons."

A pop up window will appear.

Click on "Toolbars and Extensions" beneath the "Add on Types" section on the left side of the window.

A list of add ons will appear on the right side of the window.

Scroll through the list of installed add-ons and locate third party add ons that you've recently installed.

Note that you can look at the "File date" for a date of when you installed the add on.

Look for add ons that you installed at approximately the same time you began experiencing issues with Internet Explorer not responding.

Click on any suspected problematic add-ons and click the "Disable" button at the bottom of the window. Close "Internet Explorer (No Add ons)" and restart the browser normally.

Verify that disabling the add-on fixes the problem.

If not, repeat this section and disable another recently installed add on until you fix the problem.

Hope this helps.

Tons of applications running on an Acer Aspire 5100 lap top. What is a good list of required ones?

The good news? Your going to learn alot about which programs are on your Laptop.
The bad news? Your going to be doing alot of searching on the internet for the processes that are running on your Laptop.
Hit ctrl, alt,and delete, at the same time, this is called " the three finger salute", to bring up your task manager. Hit the processes tab, there you will see a list of the running processes, just do a search of each one on the internet which will give you an idea of which ones you can shutoff and which ones you need to keep running.

This site is good for getting info on your processes,
http://www.processlibrary.com/

If you would like to keep some of them from starting up when windows starts. Hit your windows key and either start your run dialog or your search programs and files button, type in "msconfig" without the quotes, look at your startup tab and just uncheck the programs that you know you don't want to startup.

Good Luck

check under tools>manage add-ons. any add-ons that don't have a supplier name, or that you don't require should be disabled. also, delete any cookies and temporary internet files. ensure you have a good anti-spyware system, and using AVG go to the "warnings" tab of scan results and click on "remove all unhealed infections"

I believe this is related to an HP printer installation. You need to identify the process and remove it from the startup. This should be removed when you remove the printer software (Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features in Vista). An alternate method would be to use the MS Configuration Utility (Start>Run msconfig or type msconfig in search for Vista) then select the startup tab and locate the program and uncheck the box to the left. If you are no longer using the HP printer or bundled software I'd recommend uninstalling those first as it appears it is trying to install additional components.

In future posts please include your operating system and any specific details you have available.

Press CTRL+ALT+Delete.

If you're using Windows Vista this will bring you to a new prompt screen asking you what you wish to do. Select 'Task Manager'.
You will be returned to the Desktop and the Task Manager will open up on the screen.

Click on the 'Processes' tab on the window, and search through the list until you find something along the lines of... AcerTour.exe

Click on this process to highlight it, and press the 'End Process'
button. (This should immediately close the running process)
