Cd drive error "please insert disk"

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd computer then plug them back in restart your this should activate the found new hardware wizard.

If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

"you only need to do the following"

if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Close all open programs
Click on Start, Run, and typeregedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
Upper Filters
Lower Filters
Upper Filters.bak
Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computerOpen My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned.
You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

if this fails to fix the problem It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it
There are several general categories of symptoms of CD/DVD drive malfunctioning from the drive not lighting up all the way to drives that burn, but with errors. You can diagnosis and repair your optical drive with simple fixes.

Restart your PC before checking or doing anything.
Sometimes simply restarting your PC will solve the problem.

If your drive doesn't appear in the "Computer" dialog or Explorer, press the "F5" key to refresh the list.

If that doesn't work, download and install a freeware program such as CDGone ( to get the drive to reappear in the Device Manager or Explorer.

You should subsequently reinstall third party CD/DVD playing and burning software.
If your CD/DVD drive connects with an IDE ribbon cable, try each drive attached on the IDE ribbon separately.

If they do work separately, both drives probably have their jumpers set as master drives.
Make sure that one drive is set as the master drive and the other to the slave drive.

If the CD/DVD drive door won't open, determine whether the tray is obstructed.
Stick a straightened out paper clip in the little hole and try to push out the tray.

With a removable laptop drive, pull it out and shove it back in solidly.
Also clean the contacts of the drive with a pencil eraser.

With a drive installed in a desktop computer, unplug the machine and pull the data and power cables and then reseat them firmly, being sure to connect completely.

With a volt meter, test the power cable going to the drive.
It should have two wires with a 5 volt ~1 amp circuit and the other two with a 12 volt ~1 amp circuit.

From these tests, you can determine if the drive is mechanically and electrically sound and if the power supply needs replacement.

Note that there are usually several spare power supply drive leads which can be tested and used to replace a faulty one.

Purchase and use a CD lens cleaner or use a compressed air cleaner can.
If the drive doesn't light up when a CD/DVD is placed in it:

With removable laptop drive, pull it out and shove it back in solidly.
With removable laptop drive, clean the contacts of the drive with a pencil eraser.

With a desktop model, unplug the machine and pull the data and power cables and then firmly reseat them.

If the drive functions perfectly well without an indicator light, the drive light may be defective. Failure to light up may indicate a problem with the inner workings of the drive, such as a short in the drive motor, drive train, laser or another kind of electrical failure. In that case, you probably need to replace the drive.

If the drive initially lights and then "dies" after a disk is inserted and you keep receiving a message "Please Insert Disk," this may indicate a dirty laser lens.

Use a CD lens cleaner or a compressed air cleaner.
A drive light that is intermittent could indicate loose cables.

To verify, remove the cover of your computer and make sure the drive cables are firmly attached. If you have a laptop, a technician may need to take apart the machine to make sure the drive connections to the motherboard are secure.

Many laptops have modular CD/DVD drives that you can sometimes reseat by pulling them out and pushing them back in firmly.

With removable laptop drive, also clean the contacts of the drive with a pencil eraser.

If the CD/Drive Lights Up but Fails to Appear in the Device Manager:
Try right clicking on My Computer and choosing "Manage."

Click on Disk Management on the left hand side and then under the "Action" Menu choose "Rescan Disks."

Also go into the Device manager, click on the root of the tree or on any of the items and choose "Scan for hardware changes." *

A dying motherboard, for instance one that has a dead IDE channel, can cause this.
A way around is to buy a PCI IDE or SATA expansion card and hook your CD/DVD drives to that. *Viruses can also cause Device Manager disappearances.

Do a virus scan. *
Remove the upper and lower filters from the registry keys at:

You may have to reinstall burning and viewing software.
If you use ITunes, remove the lower filter and set the upper filter to the value of "GEARAspiWDM" without the quotes. *

See the Additional Resources at the end of the this article and try the popular CDGONE patch. This removes the upper and lower filters and changes some additional keys.

Any third party burning and viewing applications may have to be re-installed.
Using search, find the afs.sys and/or afs2k.sys files.

Rename them with a "bak" or "old" extension.
These Oak Technologies cd driver files conflict with Windows cdrom.sys, the CD-ROM driver.

If the CD/DVD drive appears in the Device Manager but fails to appear in Explorer:
Remove the upper and lower filters from the registry key at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318. You may have to reinstall the burning software.

If you use ITunes, remove the lower filter and set the upper filter to the value of "GEARAspiWDM" (without the quotes).

Look at the registry settings for the value "NoDrives" at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer.

If the values are anything other than zero, Group Policy may be hiding the drives.
You may have to ask your administrator to change things, but if it is a local machine not in a business setting, you can change Local Group Policy yourself by running gpedit.msc in the "Run" command in the "Start" menu.

In Device Manager, uninstall your CD/DVD drive and then have Windows rediscover the device by rescanning for hardware changes. In Device Manager also uninstall and reinstall the IDE port on which you drive is located.

My PC keeps restarting when playing this game

Computer randomly restarts is not something unique happened to you. Sometimes there is a dreadful total crash of the system and sometime it sends different errors, upon restarting nothing happens.

-- First of all disable the auto-restart option from your control panel settings
-- Remove any recently installed maliciously software/add-on or any other application or toolbar.
-- Try to cool down your PC as the overheating due to overuse of computer may result in system freezing and sudden restarting.
-- Update your BIOS.
-- Update the drivers
-- Make it sure the error is not caused by the deficient power supply. You may try to change the power supply.
-- Conduct the registry clean up scan for quick fix of the problem.

-- Remove flashy games and/or untrusted antiviruses/antispywares. Conduct the security scan through the most powerful scanners only.

How do I install my Phillips USB phone on my Vista PC?

You would have got a Drivers CD with your Phillips USB phone. Place the drivers CD in your CD/DVD rom drive and when the CD window opens you will get a drivers folder or else install or setup file. double click on it the driver will start installing on your PC. In each window click next tab and atlast click at the finish tab. your usb driver phone will be installed with the normal settings. Atlast, if the installation wizard asks you to start the computer please restart it so as to ensure that your USB phone works accordingly. Then whenever you like to connect your USB phone to the PC just connect the USB cable of the phone to the USB port and then in your phone if it prompts any connectivity options select the connect PC option.

I have a laptop Toshiba satellite A30. I have a black screen and some text on it like: PXE-E61 MediaTest Failure PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM and it goes continiously, I can't go any further. When I was loaded...

media test failure means that your boot drive has failed ie your hard drive has failed to boot....could be one of a number of reasons
1 hard drive connection could be loose - try taking out the hard drive and reinstalling it
2 the boot sector on the hard drive is corrupt or damaged - try booting off a windows disk and running chkdsk or fixboot command
3 partition table is corrupt - try booting off windows cd and running chkdsk /p from command prompt
4 Hard drive has failed - if machine is still under warranty return for repair if not install new hard drive and reload op system from recovery disks

Slow action

Windows 2000 runs best on the s353. I have tried running Windows XP on it, but ran into driver issues (Toshiba never released XP drivers) and there's not enough memory (I also have 256MB).
I doubt it's even possible to install Vista on that computer.

If you're running Windows XP, you could just work with it, you could upgrade the memory, or you could back up all your data, reformat, and install 2000. Note that I do not recommend Windows ME, and that I've had issues running Windows 98 on mine.

If your computer is running an old version of windows but it's an old installation and you've not maintained it, you might just need to run a CCleaner scan, defragment your hard drive, and disable any software that's running in the background and doesn't need to be (but don't disable your antivirus :P)

Cant read dvds, need new driver

You might get lucky by removing the drive entirely from the "hardware list" (start->settings->control panel->system), then letting the OS find it automatically. if it doesn't work try Windows Update and choose "Custom" to get driver updates, then restart if it tells you to. If that doesn't help, and if you're sure that the drive worked as a DVD before, try this KB from microsoft:;en-us;320553
