Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
The ink absorber is basically a sponge that absorbs extra unwanted ink during the print process. When it can no longer hold anymore it shows this error. Replacing this is about the same as changing the ink carts for difficulty. You can find the proper one in your manual near the back under supplies and these can be bought at most stores that stock a good amount of printer supplies. You just open the access panel pull out the old and insert new one. The printer will then recognize it is new and will clear your error.

You need a technician to clean the pad and printhead
Have a look at the solutions given by fixya experts
If you are not successful, try a quickfix given below:, there is no guarantee it will work, even if it works, still you need to clean the pad.
Before trying, note down the current setup for each step
On the display, select Menu
Move right or left
Set Level to 0
This is only to fool the printer
You have to get someone to clean anyway.

Eight flashes: Waste ink absorber almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink absorber for the ink used during Print Head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible
