Question about Gateway 300 C PC Desktop
I was told by gateway to download a lan driver to my Gateway 300 SE. I download this to a CD but then how do I download this to my other computer with Windows XP. Currently using a DELL with Vista
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You will need a driver for your specific NIC (Network Interface Card) that will run on Windows 98 second edition (this is important. If you dont have 2nd edition, you will need to find it somewhere. I would suggest Craigs List or e-bay). Your Default adapter is unknown to me so I cannot send you to a manufacturer site. However, that information and driver should be available at www.gateway.com/support as well as the NIC manufacturer.
Don't know what the device is? Check your Device Manager in "My Computer" / properties - select device manager
Another avenue you can travel is go for a visit at www.pcpitstop.com and have a free test performed. Of course to do this, you have to have a NIC with the proper driver already! I mention this because after you get this NIC going, you can visit the site and they will tell you whether you have the most current driver for your system or not.
I hope I have helped you with your trouble this evening.
Thank you for considering FixYa.com

Testimonial: "Very help information, thanks! I was not aware that I need the Win98 SE to initialize the NIC."
Normally installing the os on a different mechine, and then putting into another pc dosent work.
If the hardrive is the oringinal drive, which came with the system, and you want to install xp on, you will have to use a dos disk with fdisk on it, delete all partitions on the drive and create a new partition, then start loading windows, it will give you the option to format the drive for nt(ntfs) file system and setup windows.
If you do that and it still gives you protecting files error, you will have to take the side panel of the computer tower, unplug from the mains and take the cmos battery out for about 30 secs, put the battery back in, plug in the mains and reboot the computer, start loading windows again
Hope this helps and post back if you need further assistance.
