Question about Dehumidifiers

1 Answer

Is there an adjustment on the Maytag Furnace (97% AFUE Modulating Furnace Model TC Upflow Horizontal) to reduce the humidity produced by the furnace? Is there a DEhumidifier you can attach to the furn

We just bought a new furnace last year and since the cold weather hit we have too much humidity in the house, causing our windows to frost up. We never had a problem like this with the old furnace so I'm wondering is there anything that can be done with this new Maytag. There is presently a drain pipe that flows from the furnace inti the sewar drain. If I could increase that flow it might be the answer.

Make sure your exhaust pipe to the outside isn't clogged. That is where the humidity is probably coming from.

SOURCE: Adjusting dehumidifier on furnace

This model furnace does not come with a built in humidifier. Humidifiers are normally an optional add on. If you have a by-pass type humidifier it is none adjustable. Water level is normally float controlled and operation is control by blower circuit. When ever the blower runs the humidifier operates when in the heating mode.

How do i replace the humidity sensor

Only two wires and two screws. Shut off the furnace disconnect switch before doing anything. Then Pull off the cover and I do mean pull off. Then undo the two screws remembering what terminal they go to. Remove the screws from the back plate and let the wires fall through the back plate as you pull it off the wall or duct. Put the new back plate in place with the wires pulled thought. Install the screws I the same place as the old ones. Re attach the wires into the same labeled terminals as the old one. Put the new cover on. Turn on the furnace disconnect switch and away you go. To check operation all you need to do is, turn the knob on the humidifier control and listen for the solenoid to open and water to flow to the humidifier. If nothing happens then you need to check for power to the humidistat. Should be 24v. If no power then you need to check the source.

good luck

Dehumidifier runs continuously and displays higher than normal humidity levels.

Probably some glitch with the sensors. I recommend taking it to a service center.

Home has 57% humidity have one on the furnace do I also need a stan alone? my standalone is mod # 853203

An integrated de-humidifier is normally a cycling Air Conditioner. If the one on the furnace has a water line running to it, shut the water off and see what happens.

My dehumidier blows very hot air while working. Makes it hotter than it was before starting. Like a furnace.

It is normal for a dehumidifier to discharge warm air. A dehumidifier is really an air conditioner - a fan blows humid room air across a cold fin coil that causes the moisture to condense on it and drip into a container - thus cooling AND dehumidifying the air. The cool air is blown over the warm coil and discharged out the back. A dehumidifier WILL normally increase the temperature of the room it is in.
You can do the same thing with sitting an A/C unit on a stool in a room. Room air will be drawn in, cold air will come out the front, hot air out the back and water will drip on the floor. And, the room will get hotter, due to what is called "heat of compression" even though you're running an A/C unit.

Can most heat pump type air conditioner/furnace have a dehumidifier added to them? We are dealing with very high humidity in our 1100 sq. foot apartment.

Yes, but they are expensive! The unit is mounted into your air handler & a humidistat installed. Walmart dehumindifier a lot cheaper. I use one on my 1600 cuft home real well. You can set humidity level, unit will shutoff at that level. They come with an internal tank & can be plumbed to an external drain. Winter humidity should be @ 49%. Dehumidifiers also create hot air.

Furnace/air cond. blower motor is smoking

I recently installed a horizontal gas furnace. All the electrical and gas supply was done correctly for sure, but upon the trial run, some smoke was coming out the supply lines into the house. I used some flex duct tape to seal all ductwork for air leaks. I also used some inside the first box coming off the heat exchangers to seal the inside of the box for leaks. Could the tape be burning because its to close to the heat exchangers and smoking or is it because its because its brand new and the heat exchanges have to burn a while? Please help
