Re: I am not getting the channels on my unit to record...
This unit, like most these days, does not have a TV tuner built in. If you want to record, you need to provide the video and audio from another source, such as a cable box or satellite receiver. You can't just connect an antenna and tune a channel to record. You haven't missed anything; the capability just isn't there.

In short, no. Not with this unit on its own. No function for recording from or copying to DVDs exists with this brand/model.
A separate DVD recorder is required. I don't know of anyone who records DVDs to tape these days.
You are correct; the manual states clearly you cannot record from the DVD deck in this machine, which is a bit unusual, considering other brands of combos such as LG, SONY and PANASONIC offered an input (which was between channels or could be selected via remote) to allow DVD to VHS recording within the one unit.
I would presume you can connect this combo to the input of a DVD recorder, play a videotape and it will work via cables. DVDs last longer than tapes anyway.
I had the same problem, so I took it back to basics. Hooked cable into VCR/DVD player and another cable from player to TV. S cable too, plus red/white audio. Plays DVDs on AV1 and VHS on Channel 3 on TV setting.
You gotta connect the signal cable to the input of the vcr and in the output of the vcr other cable to the tv input, when you got to record some program you need put the channel number on the vcr not in the tv if you conect the vcr to the tv in the avinputs the tv will be in video mode, because the vcr receipt the signal.
Did you finalize the disk? If not, this should solve your problem. When the disk is finalized you should be able to play it on your computer if you can play other DVDs on it. Some other DVD players can only play specific disks (i.e. DVD-R, DVD+R). This may be another problem.
