So the fan is running, what about the hard drive? Do you hear the hard drive spinning?
If it looks like it booted all the way except the display is blank try the steps below.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.
If you don't think the system booted all the way then try the steps below.
Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with the laptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issue when you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problem is with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and take note of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.

Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of the memory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

Any way to accsess my data from a computer with no monitor

There is not a simple way to access the data. The simplest way in my mind is to borrow a monitor for a day while you recover your data from the computer. Monitors are not expensive, and I bet you could find a used one dirt cheap. The other way is to remove the hard drive and install it in another computer and access the files there. Best of luck!

Hello, i have a dell inspiron 530 and when i turn it on, all you hear is the fan spinning and it doesnt stop. Nothing comes up on the screen and i've checked all the parts and everything seems fine....

Hello-

Welcome to FixYa, the world's largest product support community.

Most of the time if a Desktop computer turns on but you see nothing on the screen,
It may be an issue w/ the monitor or it's cable connection.

Please verify that the monitor cable is connected to the correct port. By default the Dell™ Inspiron™ 530 only comes w/ a VGA monitor port (built-in graphics adapter) at the back unless you installed a discrete graphics adapter on the computer.

If the monitor is connected to the correct port then you might consider running a monitor Power-on Self Test (P.O.S.T).

How to do a Monitor Power-on Self Test (P.O.S.T)
1. Unplug the monitor's data cable, this is the cable that goes to the back of your computer tower.
If you are using an old monitor most likely you have a VGA monitor. Unplug the VGA cable.
2. Make sure the monitor's power cable is plugged in.
3. Turn the computer on.

My pc fan and hard drive fans turn on when the power button is pressed but nothing out puts to the monitor nor does the dvd drive work to eject or anything and also after turned on nothing happens and can...

This could be a bad memory situation. Remove all the memory sticks and put just one back in. If it doesn't boot, try another stick (maybe the first stick is the bad one).

Computer won't turn on - consistent beeping, what could be wrong?

the beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram,all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk, and remains active untill turned off.
make sure that your RAM is securely seated
try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
hope this helps

I attempted to add a secondary hard drive, did so, truned it back on and got 3 long beeps, no monitor action, removed the secondary, turned it back on w/ the original that hadnt been moved and still got...

3 long beeps means that there has been memory failure. You may have accidentaly knocked your memory sticks out of place when you opened up your computer. Try taking them out and putting the memory sticks back in, this should fix your problem.
Also, please leave me 100% votes, thanks.

Hi im sachin want to purchase 1 tb hard disk of cgate and LCD of ither samsung or sony.... 1. will support an external USB hard drive on this lcd's ? 2.is there any other type of hard disk i need to...

I do not know if the 1 Tb external hard will work on the USB ports on the LCD TVs.
What do you want to store on the 1 Tb USB hard drive and display on the LCD TVs?
Most LCD TVs can access USB memory sticks and display DVI movies (if supported by the TV), photos etc. that are stored on these USB memory sticks.
Try inserting an USB hard drive (borrow one if necessary, can be any capacity) into the USB port to see if it works before you decide to purchase a 1 Tb USB hard drive.
My suggestion would be to purchase a 1 Tb USB memory stick. This would out perform an external USB hard drive.

Dead pc

try to remove all external device connected to your computer. just leave the keyboad, mouse and monitor connected.
restart computer.
if still a blank screen
remove everything connected to your computer (mouse kyeboard and monitor) restart if nothing happens
open your computer and remove all devices (hard drive, optical drives, memory... restart,,, you should be hearing beeping sounds indicating motherboard is looking for memory. try putting back 1 memory at a time and checking all mem slot. to identify if one of the memory could be causing the blank screen. if both memory will not work try to use known good working memory. if you dont get to hear the beeping sound using a known good working memory. your memory is the problem.
give me more info

Blank screen(beeping sound)

Hi Powee,

It's definitly a memory issue. What you might wanna do, is open your CPU and take out the memory sticks from the memory slots. After this, try either blowing or vacumming (if you have one of em small PC vacumm cleaners) the slots whcih contained the memory sticks. Also, dont forget to blow off any dirt that might be on the memory stick(s) itself.

After this, just insert the memory stick(s) back into it's slot(s) and try to rebppt your computer again. Most of the time it should work. However, if you still face this issue, then it means that your memory itself is corrupt and you might need to buy a similar capacity memory altogether.

As a side note, if your computer comes from a manufacturer like dell or acer, you might wanna get them to look into the issue if it;s still under warranty (or even if it's not). Certain "branded" computers have their own way of functioning. Hope this helped.
