I have just brought my 1st memory stick how do i put stuff on it to transfer to another item

Treat it as though it were an external hard drive.
Your computer should recognise it as you plug it in.
They normally come formatted, ready for use.

All the lights come on when I switch on my HP Pavillion dv9600 but the screen is blank.

DO THIS FIRST - Perform a hard reset If a PC suddenly fails to boot properly, you should perform a hard reset as the first procedure.
  1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards. You want to test the computer not the accessories!
  2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds .
  3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not connect the battery), Press the Power button, Look for glowing LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a disk drive and fan turning.
Actions to take after performing hard reset If no error message is displayed:

If a text error message is displayed, see Troubleshooting Error Messages on a Black Screen During Startup or Boot c02076104.jpg

Black Screen with No Error Messages Connect an external monitor c02076105.gif If there is a problem with the LCD display's back light or a corrupted graphics driver, the display may appear blank but the notebook may be displaying information. Attach an external monitor to test the display. If the image displays on the external monitor, there may be a graphics driver conflict. To resolve this, turn on the computer and press f8 key, then select Enable low-resolution video . If the image displays on the LCD display in low resolution, you can download and install the latest drivers for your specific graphics driver. If there is an image on the external monitor but the notebook display remains black, contact HP for technical assistance. Disconnect all peripherals and repeat the hard reset Even though users are instructed to disconnect all peripheral devices from the notebook when doing a hard reset , some devices are often overlooked. c02069237.gif Double-check that all devices are disconnected including: external keyboard and mouse (wired or wireless), USB connected external drives and devices, thumb drives and flash drives, network storage devices, PC card, SD memory cards, express card, eSata connections, firewire or similar devices, printer, scanner, camera, port replicator, or docking station, any CD/DVD from the optical disc drive, and any media from the multi-card reader.B

I connect an external hard drive to my Dell monitor and the usb wont work.

Will any USB device (keyboard, mouse, memory-stick) work when connected to your Dell monitor?
Will those USB devices (including your external disk-drive) work when _directly_ connected to your computer?

My acer KAV 60 screen is not working. the hard drive boots and it charges but nothing happens on the screen. It just remains black. I did't drop it or spill liquid on and it's only a year old.

In order to check what is really not functioning. Your laptop have a video port for external monitor which is color blue often at the lower back of your lcd screen or at the side. Plug the CRT or LCD monitor to your vga(video graphics adapter) port to check if your laptop is still functioning. If there is a display on your external monitor that means you have to replace your lcd monitor. If there is no display with external monitor check your memory or ram by unplugging your memory then clean it with a hard eraser the memory pin and then put it back again and turn on your computer to test if already functioning. If the above procedure didn't work you have to bring it in a computer repair shop. Have a good day!

Hi im sachin want to purchase 1 tb hard disk of cgate and LCD of ither samsung or sony.... 1. will support an external USB hard drive on this lcd's ? 2.is there any other type of hard disk i need to...

I do not know if the 1 Tb external hard will work on the USB ports on the LCD TVs.
What do you want to store on the 1 Tb USB hard drive and display on the LCD TVs?
Most LCD TVs can access USB memory sticks and display DVI movies (if supported by the TV), photos etc. that are stored on these USB memory sticks.
Try inserting an USB hard drive (borrow one if necessary, can be any capacity) into the USB port to see if it works before you decide to purchase a 1 Tb USB hard drive.
My suggestion would be to purchase a 1 Tb USB memory stick. This would out perform an external USB hard drive.

It's possible that it's a hardware problem, Since this is a laptop it may be hard for you to reseat some of the internal devices inside in your laptop so we could start isolating the issue from the hardware and to the software.

First try to power cycle it, turn off your laptop remove the battery, any external connection like external mouse, external hard drive and monitor and press the power button for 15 seconds after that put the battery in and turn it back on without the external devices plugged in. (if it turned on without a problem that's good-possible that one of the external devices are causing it to keep on restarting, to isolate it you can just put the external devices one-by-one and start the computer, if it start occuring you know who is causing the problem)

If you can disassemble your laptop you can try to remove the hard drive, then turn on your computer, if your computer didn't restart that means that the problem is with you hard drive, possible that the software installed in it is faulty or the hard drive itself (try plugging it back in properly let's see if it'll work, if not, you may need to buy a new hard drive or before buying one, you can try to plug your hard drive to a different computer (acting like an external hard drive) and backup all your important files and reformat that hard drive, after reformatting it you can try to plug it to your laptop again. (if that hard drive is not detected to another computer meaning that it's faulty)

If that didn't resolve the problem, you can try to reseat the memory testing each memory chip and slots, processor.

Laptop powers up, hard drive spins up, screen blank?????

remove battery, unplug ac adapter and hold power button for about 30-40 seconds this will clean your video memory if this will not help try to connect your laptop to external monitor or tv then turn it on check if you can hear Windows starting sounds. If on external monitor will be ok then ist LCD issue if you cant hear any sound and on external monitor is same issue then its video card issue and you need to replace motherboard

Black screen for hp laptop

Hi,

Initially, a couple of ideas ou may want to explore:
  • hook an external monitor. Often there would be a VGA connector at the rear of a laptop specifically for this purpose. It would need a standard 15 video cable normally attached or with the external monitor. You may need to cycle through Fn + F? keys to enable the external monitor. F? would be the function key with the small monitor icon;
  • remove the hard disk of the erring laptop, connect it to a 2.5 to USB adapter and attach to a free USB port of a 2nd computer. it will be treated as an external storage device much like a thuimb/flash drive and therefore would allow copy and paste;
  • tap on the cover of the laptop, the one right behind the LCD screen anywhere on the sides, this is in the hope that it is a cold solder or loose connection;
  • run the laptop with the lid not fully opened;
  • slightly warp/twist the lid/LCD, it could just be a loose connection;
  • if the display works even just momentarily, then chances are that no major repair work is required. The bulk of the job would be in the opening and offhand, no major component replacement.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

try to visit http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/webpage.cfm?siteid=7117&areaid=2&website=AcerPanAm.com

probable cause: there is an external device connected to your computer like printer, external hard drive or docking station. remove any if there is
could be a video card issue: try using an external monitor if you will get to see anything on it. if video card is integrated and you still have a warranty in your system have your motherboard replaced. when you use an external monitor be sure you know how to switch the screen from your lcd to the external monitor.

when you turn on the computer do you get to see anything come up on your screen before it goes blank?

try also removing the memory/ies of your system. see if you will get to see an error message on the screen and beeps from your computer without the memory. then try putting back 1 at a time and try using other memory slot to check if one of the slot is not working or just your memory
