In answer to your question, no not in the sense that you mean (similar thing happened to mine). If it does not work at all (that is to say cannot be burned on) when not connected to the PC then I'd say that it needs returning and repacing. If it does switch on when not connected to the PC then try another cable justin case this is the fault, though I am more inclined to the "back to seller" route as the most probable outcome.
You should not need drivers for this device as it ought to be picked up automatically by your computer (assuming that it's Windows, what version are you running?). If you have an expansion card in the player, then try removing this and then re-connecting the Kubik to your PC to make sure that the expansion card is not faulty.
Another quick test is to check the cable, both in a different USB slot if you have one available and / or by connecting another USB device that uses the same connection (in my case, a digital SLR camera has the same USB adapater so I can use the cable for either). If, doing this, the second device also is not recognised then try swapping the cable for a new one (but again, if possible test the cable and connection to other USB device in another USB slot as well).
One other quick question - does the Kubik device work still when unplugged from he PC?
i have the same problem, when i switch on only the kubik digital logo shows and no menu page . have to reset to switch off , connected it to the computer and it does not show up, did you have any luck finding out whats wrong if so please let me knowi have looked around internet and it seems to be a common problem but dont know anyone who has sorted it out.
Thank you for your enquiry I will be glad to assist you. Please can you make sure the player has been reset correctly. There is a reset button on the side of the player please can you press this button carefully using a pin when the player is turned on. The actual reset button is at the bottom of the hole and you will hear a faint click when the button is pressed correctly.
Please drain the battery completely and reformat your player?
To Format the player follow these instruction:
Connect the player to your computer using the USB lead
2. Go to “My Computer”, your player will be shown as a Removable disk
3. Right click on this icon and select Format.
4. All files and folders will be deleted from the player
5. Once the format is complete, disconnect the player from the computer and turn the player off.
